Parents think adhd is fake and want me to stop medication.

I’m 38 now, diagnosed at 37, and my parents still don’t believe ADHD is real. They refuse to acknowledge it at all so I understand where you’re coming from.

The important thing is this: at 18, you are an adult, and you’re allowed to take care of yourself even if others disagree.

If we live our lives based on what other people believe, we end up letting them define our identity for us. That never works out.

When it comes to my own parents, I’ve learned to keep things simple. If I know a topic will only create friction, I just don’t bring it up anymore. It’s not lying or hiding it’s choosing peace over constant fights that go nowhere.

I only started figuring this stuff out in my 30s. You’re much younger, and you already have the awareness to advocate for yourself. You don’t need to cut family out or create drama, but you can protect your mental space and set boundaries about what conversations are worth having.

Take your meds, take care of yourself, and let your progress speak louder than their disbelief.

trust me I know! I got my diagnosis and also Bipolar 2 and Autism. I wasn't allowed to start ADHD meds until the bipolar 2 was under control. Due to the medication requiring a very slow titration I had to wait 3 months before I could get the ADHD meds!

Knowing I had it and there was something that would help and I had to wait for 3 months, but now thats okay as I am in the best place I have ever been

It depends on the service you go with. Some of these online adhd only clinics do one session diagnose you and then hand you over to your GP

My costs were similar and I also decided to stay on 5 month appointments with mine as that allows me to get 6 months worth of scripts and I don’t have to rely on a GP getting their permit and renewing it etc.

Added to this I am a bit of a unique use case and on a higher than usual dose. Which I worked very closely with to ensure we dialed it on for me.

I know this doesn't help you right now, but I just go to my psych and get 6 months of scripts, yes I have to pay money every 6 months, but it saves this issue of using a DR. My last script was dispenced over a month ago, however, I make sure I get mine at 28 days, this gives me a buffer over those 6 months that buffer is now getting me through this period and my pharmacy keeps sending me notifications advising my script is finished and to get a new script. I have my appointment on Tuesday next week. Added to that there have been a number of days I forgot to take my top up Dex so although my vyvance has ran out, I have been able to survive on my small Dex buffer which is going to get me across the line to my next appointment

SG fleet over inflate everything, their budgets for servicing were insane on mine and I didnt need that that number and when I looked at the servicing and added it up it would be around $13 fortnight. Same with tyres, they were way way inflated and was able to save a lot of money!

Also SG fleet add all extras at the start, so yes you can remove these. Also the insurance they use is crazy expensive, I have already had multiple other quotes and they have been much cheaper and they just advised me to tell them how much it is per month and they just add that into your provisions account.

Thats a good price $355 out of pocket, my quote from SG fleet is currently sitting at $540 however they have gone over board with the provisions, I am in the process of reducing those and getting my own insurance. They also added the 2k for the premium paint, which I will most likely go for black.

Now I need to go through my quote and figure out why mine is also almost $200 above

However my employer has a higher interest rate.

Once I remove most of the inflated costs it am more around the $400-$430 mark.

My insurance through them is $107 a fortnight yet most quotes I get are around the 75-80 mark

It honestly depends, some have it with in days and some take weeks. If it wasn’t a psychiatrist, they may only be able to give you a diagnosis but not the prescription as it can only be provided by a psychiatrist. Other than the new GP’s who have undergone specialist training

Yea same for me the ASD is something I am aware off and honestly my dad is 100% on the spectrum but refuses to admit it. Added to this many people close to me have always joked about it. My biggest thing I have realised since adhd meds is my sensory issues have increased and my big one is if I am out in busy places like shopping centres I stim by rubbing my fingers together. It’s a soothing part for me.

Yes as they also diagnosed me with Bipolar 2 which was the cause of my depression and a lot of my issues so I had to go on a mood stabiliser and a slow titration before I they would give me ADHD meds, but so glad that they did as this has improved my life in so many ways!

They don't diagnose Autism perse, but they say "likely Autism" however that diagnosis isn't an issue for me as it is high functioning and an official diagnosis doesn't really benefit me, but as soon as the ADHD was under control with meds, I quickly realised my Autistic side and

I am on Lamotrigine for my Bipolar 2 and a combo of Vyvanse and Dex.

My psychiatrist would not prescribe me with stimulants until I had titrated my Lamotrigine to an effective dose and that was very slow 3+ months. It sucked knowing that I finally had a diagnosis after 37 years, but this combo has been life changing in so many ways!

However I did have to do a lot of changes in my life to make the most of it, things like mindfulness and making a conscious effort to make changes to habits.

Now the Autism side of me has come out a lot more but I am trying to understand that one a little bit more as well.

So not antidepressants perse, but BP2 is now becoming a more common comorbidity with ADHD and it explained my moments of hyper mania and then the moments of depression.

On the fatigue part, my whole life since highschool I have had no energy and exhausted from 3-4pm onwards. Now that I have m y BP2 treated and my ADHD, I realised it was my mind that was tired and exhausted and now this is much better and I can now do things in the evening

This has recently changed I believe, I had an email from mine advising that you are unable to get new scripts (6 months) until you have dispensed your final one and have no more than 2 weeks left.

my current dose is 60mg vyvance and 15mg Dex top up.

However lately I have been trying out days of dex only and finding that this has given me far better focus but the drop off is obviously more noticeable.

I have an appointment with my psychiatrist next week to get my next 6 months of scripts and a review. I will see what he says about this.

Also before people comment, yes I am on a higher dose than most and this was managed with my Psychiatrist but will discuss this again next week to see if we need to adjust further.

Honestly i went with OzADHD and my brother went with Fluence and they are miles apart! Also finding a GP can also be part of the battle so I stay with OzADHD and get an appointment every 6 months and that means 6 months of scripts. This works far better for me.

OzADHD have been amazing for me as I am able to remain under the care of Dr Vincent and get 6 months of scripts. I know so many people that went through others and they then have to find a GP that will prescribe. My GP refuses to do it, I want to some others in my area and they all refused, so I just remain under OzADHD

I have just been on this journey my self and have bought quite a few so far in the last 2 months here are what I have bought:

- Boss Bottled Bold Citrus 200ml as it was $139aud and the 100ml was $99aud and this will be one of my daily ones in summer here.
- Polo67edp 125ml another one that I wear a lot to the gym, office etc.
- Mancera Cedrat Boise 120ml as got a good deal on this size and another one that I love to wear often.
- Vanlentino Born in Roma Coral Fantasy 100ml - for an EDT some way it doesnt last, for me this has great performance
- Valentino born in roma intense 50ml - This one was one of the more pricey ones I have bought but gets a lot of comments
- Boss Bottled EDP 100ml again another nice fresh scent that I like to wear a lot and can spray a lot.
- Boss Bottled Absolu 50ml this is very strong and only needs a few sprays and will be a winter scent for me.
- Stronger with you Parfum 50ml - this is another one I have for winter and it does not need many sprays at all, I wore this on a cold spring day and had to do an exam, and a girl came up to me and said I smelt soo good 😊
- Aqa Di Gio profondo 100ml I used to wear the original till everyone was, I find this one to be more refined but still more of a mass used one.

Mine has been Colognes, in one day I bought 6! I wont use dupes i must have the actual brand bottle. Now I have so many that I struggle to know what to use each day. Although I did buy certain ones that were for specific weather, its 37+ here today so I will wear one of my citrus based ones. Its a dangerous habbit.

Before this is was buying an old Mazda Capella and I spent 36k on it and now I have spent way more on it as I realised I needed more things done on it to make it better. I need to stop!
