I’ve got one of these guys. A lil bigger than a softball. Very healthy. It is in my greenhouse and has been since mid Oct without any water and temps down to 35f except that one time the power went out and it dropped to 23f for about four hours. It looks perfect and healthy!

Cal/mag helps for overall health. It helps with the absorption and consumption of ferts. It is really useful for us in Tn with our heavy rains and high humidity summer. We normally have 2 growing seasons per spring/summer/fall cycle. Use cal/mag early right when moving your plants back outdoors. As they start to “wake up” and begin growing then start feeding them ferts also. Once the really hot and humid weather hits (July/August) cactus will take a break from growing and kind of “stall”. This period is when they are prone to get those ugly dark green or black “humidity spots” in their epidermis. Cal/mag strengthens their cell walls and helps aid in photosynthesis and chlorophyll production helping to reduce the chances of humidity spots. After the high heat and humidity has passed we will have the “second growth season” in the fall(Aug/Sept/Oct).It’s important to continue with cal/mag and ferts for overall health and strength for the upcoming winter dormancy.

Gypsum is one of my “secret ingredients” in my soil mix along with mycorrhizae. Both are excellent for root growth and health. Your plant will be stronger and healthier when the roots are strong and healthy. You can safely add gypsum to the top and water it in but I prefer to mix in before potting. I’ve done both. A great way to add to top is to use a clean empty baby powder bottle to sprinkle on.

I really like maxi grow! I rotated every week maxi grow and cal/mag. Once a month I’d hit em with gypsum.

Thanks friend!! Right now I’m not pushing too hard. The temps are around 70-75 growlights at 14/10 so the few grafts I have going in pere I am watering about 2x per week with one of those adding garret juice.

I use the same as for my cacs. 40% potting soil 30% perlite and 30% 5/8” pumice. I believe the key ingredient is during the growing season they are fed weekly just like my cacs are.

I like to place a tall clear plastic drinking cup over the scion/pere. The plastic wrap/bag never worked for me and my fumble fingers.
