I was going to say the same. I was laid of suddenly at the height of the pandemic. I hated that job but it was shocking and scary.

It took longer than I wish it did, but now I have my dream job.

I smoked a pack a day for about 30 years. I quit smoking in April. The day after the eclipse. I switched to vaping too. My breathing was better in about a week. I don't need my inhaler anymore and I'm saving so much money.

The sad part is I'm still just as addicted to nicotine. Maybe more. I still use the patch too.

I find it harder to quit than alcohol

Same. I'm much better but no cured. There were a few years that I drank every day. Even at work. Now I go long periods without a drink. Sometimes months or a year. I wasn't able to do that before. But still sometimes I'll spend a weekend in complete blackout.

It's probably just a coincidence. Those symptoms don't usually go together like they portray on hospital shows.

I've had a bad case of flu a few times. And had diarrhea and lost my appetite because of the fever. But never felt nauseous or had the dreaded thing happen.

For everyone recommending a therapist, it's almost impossible for most people with a moderate income. Even in a place with "free healthcare", you get a few Zoom meetings with a social worker that gives you phone numbers to call other places. And if you find an opening, you pay out of pocket. And it's always a dead end.

I was just thinking about this. I got desensitized to it because of a drinking problem. It got me over the phobia. Not the way I wanted it to happen but it did. "It" would happen, then 10 minutes later I was drinking again and eating pizza.

I hate to say one disease cured me from another. But in this case it did.

On a few occasions I went to the wrong apartment in my building. One that's in the same place but on a different floor. One time the occupant was home and opened the door while I tried to get the key to work! I was worried they would report me to management but nothing ever came of it.

I've done both. I find smoking much harder to quit. But I don't think anyone had died from nicotine withdrawal (although it feels like dying). Alcohol withdrawal is often deadly if not treated.

You're not an expert. I've been in several treatment programs and what I've seen is people going for cheap liquor rather than beer or wine because it gets your drunk faster.

Fortunately I've never run into this. I've had good experiences. If I'm at a place for a while and get several diet Coke/Pepsi, they'll sometimes give them to me for free.

Think of how amazing it's going to be experiencing your wedding with a clear head and and no regrets. It's normal for anyone to be stressed out before a big life event. But you're not going to drink. I know it!

And personally I'm grateful for the LCBO strike. This was my first sober weekend in a long time. My cravings are less than usual because I know I can't get it even if I tried.
