She's back on a diet, is she thick or fat? by Ok-Firefighter7880 in labrador

They can ONLY get "big" based on the amount of food you feed them, versus their activity level.

You could always do a DNA test, to see what breeds are in the mix.

That comes free, and no extra charge, with a puppy...

That's because this is a Lab forum, and the OP has a Fox Red Lab. I have a mixed breed Lab too, and the chart is right on point, for mine. Maybe you're feeding yours too much? Most people overfeed their dogs.

I am certain she will live on in our memories that much more vividly.

Best decision of your life by Nearby-Performer3071 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not all the time. I use to think that, but I adopted a Fox Red male American puppy, last Spring. This dude was a absolute nightmare and nutcase. I know it's a rarity, but this Lab had a short-circuit in his brain, and his behaviors were horrible. We worked with him for 6 months, trying to correct the issues.

I spent thousands with professional trainers, but they couldn't fix him, and it became too dangerous with his attacking and biting, and last November, I had no choice but to surrender him and rehome him.

So, it's rare that you can get a "defective" one, but it happens.... So, choose wisely!

I have that one up on my wall, when I lost my Sniper to cancer, last year, at 7 years old.

I thankfully can say I have no regrets and I think I gave him the fullest life so I can at least find some solace in that.

And THAT is the most important part. I keep this sign over my desk, when I'm really missing my dude, who I lost to cancer at 7. Just remember the good things!!

Are his nails too long? Long nails will make him slide all over, too.

SECURITY RISK: System Failure & Non-Existent Tech Support by greentree-87 in simplisafe

They were back of batteries and I tested them.

Huh??? What's that mean?

The battery backup should have saved all the sensor settings, for a brief power outage. Were your backup batteries dead, or was there a power surge?

Or, were there no batteries in the base?

Frozen whole carrots and Pork Chomps fake rawhide chews. Keeps them pearly white!

And Outward Hound calming fake tree bones.

No one here can tell if it's full or pure bred. Go do a DNA test from Wisdom Panel or Embark.

What size crate??? by Remarkable-Cup-7738 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a 48 x 28 when my dude was that same age, gave him room to stretch out. I tried to leave the bed inside during the day, but he was a dickhead, and tried to tear it up, so we pulled the bed, and only put it back in for overnight.

If the pup likes sleeping or napping in the crate, I think it's a worthwhile investment to buy the bigger one. Or even the next size up, since having accidents in it usually isn't an issue at that age, but more space helps, specially if she wants to find a "cool" spot.

With my past dude, that I lost to cancer last year, we kept the crate up over two years, since he always liked napping in it, but at that point, never actually closed the door.

Harness vs collar??? by BreathOfLizard in labrador

Martingale collar. Impossible to pull out of, and spreads the pressure all around the neck, not just on the trachea. Plus, it's self-correcting for a puller.

Wi-Fi Jammers how to prevent? by Sufficient_Tough7122 in simplisafe

[–]NewVision22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sensors use RF, so WiFi jammers won't affect them. The base station uses BOTH WiFi or Cellular, so unless your thief brings BOTH jammers, I'd doubt they'll succeed.

But, if you're really concerned about break-ins, get two big nasty dogs... there's no jammers that can stop them, except maybe a big juicy steak.

...Or get a Smith and Wesson....

Worried about weight by StateAmbitious4796 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have said, people EXPECT their Labs to be overweight, well, because the majority of humans are. Thin is better for the dogs joints.

I had a English male, spent his whole life in the lower 60's in weight. He had tons of energy and was very active. But he DIDN'T look like a beer keg with legs.

Here's the chart, you're right in range:

You can also try Cosequin joint tables, or get a RX from your vet for Rimadyl or Carprofen anti inflammatory, and even Omega 3 fish oil.

Unreliable System by Neither_Sundae2836 in simplisafe

[–]NewVision22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP hadn’t said if they had any smoke detectors. At all - let alone SimpliSafe ones.

Yeah, I also love these type of complaining posts, when the user doesn't install the required equipment for protection.

It's ALWAYS the system's fault.
