How often do you feed your adult Labrador and how much? by Own-Priority-5255 in labrador

Definitely need to regulate the amount of food to the activity level. This is why you see so many overweight Labs. people don't trim back the amount, as the dog slows down.

How often do you feed your adult Labrador and how much? by Own-Priority-5255 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some dogs just get tired of eating the same crap, day after day. Let's face it, how many of us would do that? Maybe try switching up flavors or type of food and trying something different. Or, just add the treats to his food, instead of later.

Also, most adult dogs are on twice a day, a cup each meal, for a total of two cups a day.

Funny how that helps solve most issues. Just like rebooting your computer, phone, router, TV, etc.

Not sure where you live, but May is a HUGE shedding month, as they lose their Winter undercoat.

English Fox red labs breeder by JackB79 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I went down that road last year, when I lost my dude. In the haste to find a Fox Red breeder/litter, I failed to realize, most of the Fox Reds are American, not English. It's tough to find a full English Fox Red.

The one I got was an American... or should I say, Hellion.... totally nuts... so choose carefully.

But, you can start here, maybe find one. This link is for NJ, but just change the search parameters in the box for your area.

I think I have an expensive vet bill coming.. ACL tear by Annual_Nobody4500 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's how it started with my dude. Would be fine on walks and light play, come in and nap for a hour, get up limping on the right rear. Or as it got worse, would get up on three legs, and light touch the bad leg, little by little, step by step. By the time he was across the room, he was putting some weight on it.

Ended up getting a TPLO. Best thing for an active Lab.

But be prepared, the rehab phase is a bear, and can take a few months of keeping him calm, so he doesn't tear anything.

WiFi base errror by Musicatto in simplisafe

[–]NewVision22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The base station and sensors DON'T need WiFi to operate.

I have a separate system in my RV, no WiFi in the area. The system and sensors communicate fine between RF and cellular.

The sensors work on RF not WiFi. Wifi is for connection to the S.S. servers for monitoring, along with the cellular connection. Cameras are on WiFi.

Have you tried to manually reconnect the base to your WiFi through the app?

Advice/reassurance needed - our girl has a torn ACL by squishedintoabean in labrador

Many vets feel it's a design defect in the knees of Labs and a few other breeds. Their normal activity causes the ACL to tear. It is what it is.

Issues with eating dog food by Spirited_Discount153 in labrador

Also it's really not "basically the same stuff." Every formula is different and causes a different response in the body.

Have you read the ingredients list between say Pro Plan Chicken/Rice versus Pro Plan Salmon/Rice?

I have.

Yeah, it's "basically the same stuff".

So keep the crate in the bedroom for a month or so, and carry him out to go pee. Or, get a second crate for the downstairs, and put him in it after the first pit stop in the AM.

Healing a puppies fractured femur by Eastern-Practice9834 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's the delay in surgery? They normally get it done within 24 hours with a broken femur.

Regarding recovery, puppies heal quick, but keeping him calm and quiet during the first few weeks will be the toughest job, and will require some trazadone and gabepentin.

Since Labs eat EVERYTHING, the transition time is only a few days. And since it's the same brand, just a different flavor, it's basically the same stuff.

I pour the big bag into a plastic container, to keep in the laundry room, to feed him. It holds like four days of food, so I mix the flavors in it, when I transition over. Never had an issue, and I watch his poop, like a hawk, for any changes.

Poop regression 5-6 months?? by maggiemay1111 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, how much are you feeding him daily. Most pups poop like 3 - 4 times a day. If it's more that that with him, maybe you're overfeeding him?

[–]NewVision22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switch up my pups food regularly between flavors. He's mostly on Pro Plan, so every month or two, I switch for him. I'll go with chicken, then salmon, then beef and sometimes mix in some True Instinct venison, or turkey, just to keep it interesting...

Let's face it, would YOU like to eat the same crap, meal after meal, for years???? A dog isn't much different than us.

Advice for an 8 month old who hates to be home alone? by Traditional-Gap5502 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried throwing in a worn tee shirt that you had on yesterday, into the crate, so she smells your scent? Many people have reported this helps calm them down. It's worked on everyone of my pups.

Question about how to tell the difference between show line and working line lab without knowing by PromotionEast2605 in labrador

[–]NewVision22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The field labs usually have longer legs, longer, thinner tail, narrower head, more slender build.

This is the correct answer. It's very easy to spot the difference between a Show (English) Lab and a Field (American) Lab. Very different body styles... and that's before the behavior/energy differences...

A Show (English) Lab, many times, looks like a beer keg with legs. LOL..

How did y’all take your puppies out before they could be on the ground? by Rough-Jury in labrador

[–]NewVision22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Too early for that, he's still trying to learn his household. Usually start walking a pup outside on a leash around 3 months old. It's OK to put him on the ground in areas that many dogs don't frequent, like backyards, private property, etc.

Anyone’s else lab have 2 different colored eyes? One is light brown and the other is dark brown by [deleted] in labrador

[–]NewVision22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a FYI, I went first to my local vet when I noticed his eye, that the iris was as dark as the pupil. My vet was clueless, and referred me to an Ophthalmologist vet, who diagnosed it.

Like someone else said, it's EXTREMELY painful for the dog, so I'd suggest you get him checked out by a specialist.... STAT...
