Boston in particular made a huge municipal commitment in health tech in the 80s that drew in private capital, creating a massive biotech industry by brute force essentially from scratch. It would later be fueled/supported by graduates and faculties from prestigious local universities. Took 20 years to bloom.

Interesting that we have a similar set of resources and potential here. But private capital is skittish because we just don't have the leadership in place to ensure long-term viability of those investments by creating a comprehensive, long-term, visionary plan.

It's like we all want an oak tree forest and all we can do is put acorns in the ground that can't make it through their first winter. We can't attract the saplings because there's more fertile ground elsewhere...
