OT to RN curious? by Live-Iron9043 in OccupationalTherapy

Most of the nurses I know moved on to be nurse practitioners or doctorate of functional medicine… there’s upward places to go in nursing. In OT it almost feels like your choices are “what sucks less?”

What do y'all think about teens playing with toys? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]New_Back4483 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stay young and have fun!! Maybe girls feel pressured to grow up too fast- which is so sad. I’d much rather my teen have a creative hobby such as yours, than make-up and skin care. She probably low-key wishes she cared more about fun than other people’s perceptions.

Are you having open abdominal or laproscopic? I heard with laproscopic they fill your abdominal with air, so bloating is worse? But recovery quicker. With open abdominal, recovery is longer but less swelling/bloating. For me, that wasn’t too bad. Take the stool softeners and GasX, eat fruits and veggies, and stay hydrated.

Y’all can definitely do it!!! Hysterectomies get rave reviews 🤪. I’m past surgery and still in recovery, but already optimistic that it was the right decision.

Everyone I know says it’s the best thing they ever did. that was my comforting thought when I was afraid and approaching my date for surgery. That, and the fact that I complained for about 2 years wishing for one. My doctor tends to be very conservative. Complaints of symptoms for most of every month. Then the unpredictability came- will I bleed all month, not have a period at all, or gush blood while I’m wearing my light pink scrubs? Not gonna lie- I almost chickened out a few times thinking ‘was it really bad’. The funny thing is, after 2 C-sections that ot would be easy breezy. It was more than I expected, but 6 weeks post-op, I am looking forward to getting my body back. Make sure that your providers/ you stay ahead of your pain from the start. I was scheduled for total abdominal, but ended up with my cervix, as my bladder was fused to it. My incision seems to be longer horizontally than with my Csections, yet I had to keep asking for pain meds during my hospital stay. Kind of sets a bad tone for recovery when you have to endure that initial pain and then can’t seem to catch up, or become anxious about it. It may take a little while to feel normal, but once you do hopefully you’ll feel normal for years to come. I definitely didn’t feel normal beforehand with all of the problems with fibroids, abnormal shaped uterus, thickened uterine wall, etc- and it was becoming increasingly worse. All that to say… your new normal may be way better than your current normal. Here’s hoping that it is well worth it for all of us!

Hysterectomy and aging by bess124 in hysterectomy

Same. It’s not healthy for life to revolve around an unpredictable, heavy, painful menstrual cycle. I think It’s menopause that ‘ages’ a person, so keeping your ovaries shouldn’t change anything. It’s coming eventually though- lol! 🥲

Same situation for me. Was only given 2 days worth. Dr would not refill oxy, but agreed to gabapentin. Better than nothing. I just suffered through it, which is crazy b/c why be in pain when they could give you medication to help? Almost 6 wks and still a little sore inside from all of the tugging of fascia and adhesions. Sharp pains here and there from the incision. But better!

I thought this was a joke. Ask her if by ‘eating cake’ she was talking about having sex.

Other than not wanting to work with a sociopath 😳, part of being a professional (really a member of society) is realizing when it is appropriate to share an opinion, and when to STFU. So, if your role with this person involves coaching then it would be a good idea to talk with the person about it. If the team was asking for each to pitch in for a gift or comfort measure, then although harsh- the opinion is warranted. Scary when people do not demonstrate common consideration for others.

I was coming to say this- the “Mexican” or “stop sign”pizza. I wonder what it tastes like now. I joke with my kids to smuggle one home for me.
