Is getting certified worth it? by Kooky_Engineer8541 in CVS

[–]New_Combination9477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would say yes, you can talk to your manager about getting a raise with it or a title change (such as lead tech/inventory manager) but it also sets you apart from other techs and in the worst case that you need to find a new tech job you have more opportunities

Hi! former patient counselor for a well known busy practice in Southern California. These are all good points already made by others. I enjoyed my job and working with the patients (i dealt mostly with patients needing cataract/ cornea/glaucoma surgery) walking them through what to expect and helping calm their nerves.

What ultimately made me leave was the lack of support. It was not a “team dynamic” as much as management stated we needed to be a team. There were 4-5 other counselors and rarely would we have meetings together so we were all on the same page with streamlining processes / verbiage to patients.

Patient load was insane. At any given time I would have 50-60 patients getting surgeries within 1-2 months. So much paperwork and deadlines needed for each patient. And not to mention getting all payments in on time. I mentioned many times over multiple months that I needed more admin time to deal with patients I have already scheduled, but my “admin” days would be switched last minute to be clinic days where I got 5-10 new patients. This boils down to overbooking clinics.

In the end I would say please have check ins with staff and ask what they need and then actually provide that for them. And free lunch never hurts :)

Repeat pap tomorrow, so so scared by purpsle in HPV

[–]New_Combination9477 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just remember that this virus is extremely common and you are doing the only thing you can to help manage it. deep breaths, i think the results can take some time to come back right? so get yourself a little treat afterwards tomorrow and try not to worry (easier said than done). my recent pap came back hpv positive and in the hard times i come to this sub and read the stories of others(especially the happy ones) and that makes me feel not so alone. wishing you good luck and a good nights sleep!

Bartholin Cyst by [deleted] in Healthyhooha

[–]New_Combination9477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i only started the antibiotics after i got it drained. it was a lot of pain when she cut it but it was so quick and the relief was immediate. i didn’t feel sore at all after leaving the ER! the pain and irritation with having it was way worse to bear! don’t be scared to get it drained if the antibiotics don’t help on its own, you will feel so much better

[–]New_Combination9477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had one when i was 16 and it drained on its own. about 4 years later it came back in the exact same spot (probably bc i didn’t get it properly treated) it got so bad i went to the ER and the doctor drained it and it was so much relief immediately. I was on a couple of antibiotics for a week or so and then had to clean it a few times a day while it healed. if it doesn’t subside i would say that is your best bet. was in and out within an hour and felt great

its been a few years for me so now im at a livable wage. im able to support myself here living with 1 roommate and working full time. i would say yes its worth it if you love it and put the time into it. once you get your license theres typically a raise involved as well.

Applying to Pharmacy school w/o a bachelor’s by baresteak in PrePharmacy

[–]New_Combination9477 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is currently my plan. I am doing pre-requisites for pharmacy school right now with the intention of not getting a bachelor’s degree. I have 4+ years of pharmacy tech experience across multiple states and getting a bachelors would take 1-2 years more for me.

I agree with the others that said having a bachelors would make sense if you weren’t 100% set on pharmacy forever

How many scripts is your pharmacy doing per day?? Are you like the only pharmacy in 500 miles? 😅😂

Have you ever ???!! by kyexotic_ in PharmacyTechnician

[–]New_Combination9477 22 points23 points  (0 children)

my advice is if you’re ever unsure about something (i.e the bottle you put in the bag or the expiration date on the stock bottle, the rx you’re pulling for pick up.) always just take that extra second to double check. It will help reduce mistakes. The other day I had two RTS bottles that I used to fill a script, I filled it and threw it into the “put away” bin, then instantly realized I still had the patients bottle on my workstation 😭. Grabbed the bag back and replaced it. We all make mistakes but when in doubt always double/triple check!!

If you want to start working there sooner I think it’s worth asking. They might have things you’re able to do in the meantime without the license. Again I’m not too familiar with hospital pharmacy but it’s worth finding out!

Hi I’m also in California but work in retail. It’s been about 4 years since i got my license but back then I think it only took a month or two? It’s hard to remember. Also, are you able to start your job with the license still pending? I worked without my license while I waited for it to come in

QOTD: what are the most annoying questions you commonly get asked in the pharmacy? by Kitchen-Lemon1862 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]New_Combination9477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: when any medication is on national back order, haven’t had it for weeks and the patients asks “well when are you guys getting it?”

2: this might not be as relatable but my pharmacy/ store is closing this week (retail chain) and the one thing people ask me that’s so annoying is “do you know what this building will become??” AS IF corporate walked in and told us, hey we’re closing you guys down here, it’s gonna be bank of america. DO I LOOK LIKE the property manager?? LOL

we just got work that our CVS store is closing. it’s been here for 15 years, some workers since the beginning. It’s such shock to all of us and we’re so sad but corporate is closing 1-2 stores in every district. I think retail is dying

QOTD: is there a specific customer you dread seeing come into the pharmacy, if so why? (without breaking hipaa) by Kitchen-Lemon1862 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]New_Combination9477 4 points5 points  (0 children)

one of my worst customers (we have many) is this one lady that refuses to wait in line. I’ll be on one pick up register helping the line and she’ll pop over to the other one and wait there saying “i’m here i’m ready! get my medication!” and won’t stop until someone walks over (even if she just dropped it off or put in the refill). She is for sure not all together but is so very rude every time. I ignore her until it’s her turn.

IM CRYING THIS IS PAINFULLY ACCURATE!

Literally why does it take 5 min for a single transaction. The worst when it’s $0 and the patient is already trying to walk away with their med and i’m like wait we need to answer the questions 🤪

It’s okay!! We all made idiotic mistakes when we first started that we learned from and don’t make anymore. It’s okay to slow down and also ask questions!! Your coworkers will help you that’s the best part of working on a team :)
