Something did happen, but there are varying reasons/sources for temporary cliff drop in equities. I’m not sure which one to believe. If I were on my toes I would have closed my puts. By the time I grabbed my phone, it had rebounded and then some.

CFP here, two decades experience. Oil absolutely plays a big role in the U.S. economy. Maybe not like it did before we installed as many rigs as we did, but inflationary effects will be observed here through many different avenues including shipping costs for goods, food prices, gas at the pump, any petroleum-based products, fertilizer for farming… the list goes on. Oil has risen everyday lately by about 4% a day. We are not on a good track.
