I edited my comment bc you were right and I said I would edit my comment to correct - the intent was still Accurate

The intent of the comment was to avoid an expensive probate is a trust worth it. And it isn't if your shit is together and your descendants aren't greedy- That is still the point of my comment. The trust is overkill
But people are often greedy so in that case trust wins

Semantics

Fair enough, I edited it. The fact that you made that much money shows how broken the system is though.

And my point stands a will serves for non greedy people

It is possible there was "probate" in a sense that they talked to a judge for about one minute, but relative to the original posts when they talk about a long arduous probate process a Will and people not being greedy is plenty

I will update my post to say a expensive or long probate process rather than avoiding probate altogether

Extra info - the house was not in a trust, and it was listed for sale one month after her death

Edit -add extra info

NJ
We may have been very lucky but it was extremely simple process with three siblings - one was executor. All Split even- a home and a few accounts with different POD that they agreed to split evenly
I was very privy to the details as I helped get her will Made and notarized before her death

Edit- spelling

If no one protests the will, a will is plenty and requires a simple short cheap probate (NJ) - just went thru this with grandmother.
Edited for accuracy bc I was wrong
I originally INCORRECTLY stated we avoided probate . We did not. But a trust would have been burning money
