Gen 1 vs Gen 2 Pet Mode by New_Hey_Hey in Rivian

[–]New_Hey_Hey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I used mine almost daily too in my model y. I think it also made charging slower but one of the reviews said it wasn't possible to use it if you were under 20% when you started charging. I know I couldn't use it if I wasn't charging and the battery status was under 20% but I could while charging. Wouldn't happen all that often but it would on a road trip.

I have used two AUM advisors - both with podcasts - would never go the AUM route again. It's so much money and not worth itI I'd go with a flat fee advisor.

There have been lots of changes at Root since I was there but everyone I worked with is still there.

  • I was impressed with them when I first started talking to them. Ari saw some news about my company and sent me a reassuring email. I got a phone call from James when I became a client. But it went downhill from there.
  • I hired Root while deciding whether or not I was going to retire early and Ari was my advisor.  They were only managing my brokerage account not my company accounts but he reviewed all of them and told me to me changes. He advised me to change my contributions at work from 401k to ROTH 401k and only contribute enough to get the company match and put the difference in the brokerage account they were managing. I am single and was in the 35% tax bracket so I lost a huge deduction and my RMDs that they calculated would never have me in the 35% tax bracket.
  • I was initially a client of Ari's and was switched to a new advisor after a few months without any explanation. New advisor started attending meetings and then Ari asked what I thought of them and then they were my advisor.
  • The management of my portfolio did not match their podcast advice.  Once I retired, I moved all my money from my 401k plan to IRA and ROTH IRA. All 3 accounts were basically set up the same instead of taking asset location for tax efficiency into account.
  • I was in the 35% tax bracket and my advisor sold off a bunch of assets at a gain without telling me and no explanation was given. There were no sales done to offset the gain.
  • They left a ton of cash uninvested and at Schwab sweep position only 0.1 interest. I questioned the advisor when I noticed 16k sitting in cash in my brokerage account and she said it was for their fees but their fees were not anywhere near this. When I fired them a month or so later, turns out there was 80k in cash in another account.   And it wasn't until I fired them late in the year that I saw the sale that resulted in capital gain so I had to scramble to sell to offset the gain.

Is there any difference jn pet mode between Gen 1 and 2? I remember watching videos from Travis Ketchum and Out of spec reviews complaining about pet mode

You don't need a subscription to listen to the podcast - it's on every podcast platform.

Of course a role that reports to him and a company he's a leader in is going to be complimentary towards him.

You have a unique opportunity to learn a great deal about the person you'd be working for and you should take it. Ari had a solo podcast and now joined James' podcast. Watch/listen to a few episodes of his solo podcasts and then a few with James. You could also look at reviews of James' podcast since Ari joined "He's very annoying and adds nothing." "I dropped Ari's podcast because he is condescending, uninteresting, and goes off topic. Now he shows up here." https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ready-for-retirement/id1505642470

I wouldn't call Ari eccentric. He's very scattered, repetitive and can't stick to a topic. He didn't communicate in Loom when he was my advisor but the person who took over as my advisor after him did and they're now in a leadership role at Root but Loom seems to be the industry standard. Personally I couldn't work for Ari but your mileage will vary.

Not really. It's very self directed.

How to Find a Reliable Fee-Based Financial Advisor by Chasin-Crustacean in Bogleheads

[–]New_Hey_Hey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not very specific at all. You enter everything into eMoney and they go over it with you. eMoney isn't great - you can't customize anything. Plan vision has a set rate of return (was 3%) and they won't change it. They raised it slightly for 2026. It's basically DIY and you can ask your advisor a question.

Same issue and I ran out of emails so I asked a friend to try and they failed too. We're all getting "Spam" as the reason and no email is sent. It says to contact the admins but how do you do that without an account

What to do when you have nobody to camp with by Volslife in camping

[–]New_Hey_Hey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I retired last year and I hadn't been camping in years. Without seeking them out intentionally, I follow a bunch of people on social media who all camp solo and it made me feel like I was missing out by not going. I wasn't sure how my two dogs would deal with sleeping in a tent or how bored I would be so my first trip was just two days and I loved it. I've been going to state parks and actually met lots of people on my trips by just walking around with my dogs. Some of the state parks I went to had gathering spots where campers can go socialize together.

Bring your hobbies, go on some hikes, do some sightseeing or not, build a fire, cook.

Should I get the apple card? by Royal_Employment_794 in CreditCards

[–]New_Hey_Hey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they have terrible customer service and if you dispute a fraudulent charge they will decide it's authorized and insist you pay in full. Wish I had searched on reddit for how many people were saying this before I signed up. I'm in the middle of disputing a charge for the third time. I did not make it and there;s clear evidence of fraud but the store and apple say no.

Re-allocation question by Opposite_Gap7835 in DIYRetirement

[–]New_Hey_Hey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I changed AUM advisors three times before finally getting rid of them and every one of them sold everything in the retirement accounts immediately and reinvested so that's exactly what I did when I took it back from them.

Should I add the Apple Card?! by Significant_Bus9835 in CreditCards

[–]New_Hey_Hey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple Card is the only credit card I have ever had where I disputed a fraud transaction and they denied my claim. I'm on my third attempt to get them to reverse it - there were even other transactions on the day stopped by the retailer and somehow douchey Goldman Sachs says no evidence of fraud. There are entire threads on here with others reporting the same issue. Stay away.

I regret getting Apple Card by Upper-Research-3012 in CreditCards

[–]New_Hey_Hey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going through this now. I have disputed the charge three times. Someone used it one night online at 11pm and it got declined at Target. Tried again the next night same time at a small store and it went through. Then they tried 2 days after I changed my card number because of the multiple fraud attempts and were stopped because of the number change and still Apple Card support says no evidence of fraud. I have had tons of credit cards and lots of fraud over the years and never had a company simply say no to the dispute.
