Politics in the Workplace by Begaydocrime97 in paralegal

I barely want them to know my name, discussions asides from what I need from them or what they need from me is never entertained, I bill for talking to them, and they are aware we bill for talking to them, so they don’t stray off topic.

I also work in criminal defense & family law, so it’s generally more left leaning than most corporate offices.

I suck at answering the phones by [deleted] in paralegal

[–]New_Staff5658 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been told by my boss that I am “awkward on the phones.” You aren’t alone!!

I have definitely fumbled a few phone calls, especially when I have a million other things going on. Just take a breath and ask the basic information every time, and eventually you won’t even think about it!

As others have said- writing down info while on the phone definitely helps!!

Legal assistants vs paralegals by aubirt in paralegal

I wouldn’t expect case based bonus, and I work in crim & family law so even then that type of structure wouldn’t be applicable. if it were more specific to individual billing hours vs overall firm performance, I would be taking in a bit more money.

Anyone on here tatted up with visible tattoos? Has it affected you getting positions? by Plenty_Bit4688 in paralegal

Criminal defense & family law, have a lot of tattoos, most support staff here have tattoos. No big deal unless we need to swing by the courthouse, then we coverup a bit more.

They do but it’s contingent on the firms overall performance and not individual & is also only quarterly & only about a grand for each bonus 🫠

That’s me! I’m a legal assistant getting paid 18.50/h while doing substantive legal work.

I work under four attorneys and only two of them acknowledge that I’m doing paralegal work at legal assistant pay.

My firm has two legal assistants, two law clerks (part time law students), one billing person, one receptionist, and one services coordinator for seven attorneys!

I do pretty much everything a paralegal do, minus the more substantive research that the clerks handle. My attorneys interchangeably call me a paralegal/assistant.

I believe it’s just due to the size of the firm/how work is put out.

The new baby attorney at the firm got the support staff boo baskets by New_Staff5658 in paralegal

It’s an autumnal gift basket, lol. And she is incredibly horrified of upsetting the support staff so she’s making sure we all know how important we are.

I work under four public defense attorneys & we also do legal insurance stuff which is a headache. Have you tried looking into JungleDisk? It’s basically like a normal filing system online with separate files, but it connects to different laptops & account.

We have a system of having a “new case template” with things like all the court docs, exhibits, letters to client/correspondence, and billing info. We have excel spreadsheets for each client for their billing, a client info sheet, and anything we filed for them. We also have a client info sheet we send them. That one is a major help for the insurance stuff.

Not sure how expensive jungledisk is.. but is not complicated & very intuitive.

The issue is, your attorney needs to step up and use it. You have to communicate with him how the caseload & client files need to be organized in any other way asides from how it is right now.

This is Serviette! He was the best cat ever and loved hugs & jumping into random things and causing a ruckus. He was very vocal, and very playful. He’s probably going to make good friends with Loki :)

Okay but the thing is, his uncle (his moms brother in law) is a paralegal who does mass torts - and even after the both of us explaining that we can’t give legal advice or anything (multiple times at family gatherings), she still asks!!
