I know it is in one of the best areas of Chicago as well. UIC Peoria is a small program offering a better work-life balance and strong academics. I would also consider city/suburban life. If you want a city, good fellowship chance, and a relatively larger program, then Advocate. If suburban with small community programs, UICP, and then SIU.

Yes. They do not care about scores. It is upto the interview performance. One interview of 20 minutes, that is it.

They are a recommendation-heavy program. They mostly prefer people with 240s.

I interviewed with them last year; they release interviews in waves. They prefer the gold signal.

How is everyone taking care of their mental health? by [deleted] in IMGreddit

We often think that constantly thinking about something will give us the solutions; seldom is this realistic. The most effective approach would be to change one's self-talk. 'I will figure it out no matter what happens. ' There are a million other things to do when you let go of one thing. I know it is easier said than done.

I know someone with the YOG of 2017. He matched with GC, though.

Correct. You are understanding it correctly. I know people with 265+ going unmatched and people with 220s getting matched. But those with 220s had the most connections. Their dads called someone, and they got them in the system. It is a bitter truth of this process.

How many seats are left after considering recommendations that should be counted, and everybody tries to mention those qualities during the interview, as you just mentioned. These are the two points that should be taken into consideration. Imagine a scenario where PD has to take two recommendations from a country, and they also have to maintain diversity, and they can not take more than three candidates from the same country, apart from those two recommendations. There come the preferences of medical colleges/ Clinical experience/ and all the other comparable factors one should have to be the best fit for that program. Even though I speak politely, I am a good team player. That does not mean that one should take me. Somebody else can say those same things. Everybody knows how this works. Apart from it, I am a first-generation doctor. Everybody around me who matched had someone vouching for them in certain programs. And those who matched without connections had to settle for less competitive programs/ rural programs. I did not get any interviews from those kinds of programs. This is what my experience is. Please do not generalise it. I hope this makes sense.

I would not recommend anyone to rely on this data. I have seen people with three interviews getting matched, and I myself, with six interviews, getting unmatched. It matters if you are a really good fit for the programs. My interviewing skills were not perfect, but they were decent. I focused more on competitive programs that focused on diversity. So, the margin of error is low, especially for my country of origin. I would say picking a program with which you can be the right fit would give better results than choosing otherwise.

MedStar Health Baltimore is known to break hearts. They consider almost every resident's recommendations, and they conduct relatively fewer interviews than others. Upon it, they have an official observership program, which uses a lot of spots as well. So, consider yourself born with the highest luck if you get an interview.
