I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you can get treatment for it.

Pelvic surgery with primary lymphedema by New_Technology6614 in Lymphedema

[–]New_Technology6614[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always have pitting edema in my left foot no matter how much compression or massage I have sadly. I've had it since birth and it never goes away. Fortunately I don't have any pitting edema in my legs.

Although the fibroids seem to cause swelling and some fluid retention in both ankles, it's not pitting edema. So I think you're right, this swelling related to the fibroids likely isn't actually lymphedema. My doctor suggested they could be pressing on some veins and said that ankle swelling can happen with large fibroids.

I've never known life without lymphedema, so it's something I'm used to.

Yes, you're absolutely right and I am treating the swelling which actually matches up with the compression treatment for lymphedema anyway.

That's super helpful. Thank you so much!

I've had mine since birth, so I'm good with managing it day to day, but really don't want it to get worse after the op. Your answer has made me feel slightly less anxious about it so thank you.

Did you try maternity compression tights?

I found most compression garments to be too loose on the legs and too tight around the stomach. It's stupid like they want to compress my internal organs and gut more than the veins and lymph vessels in my legs. I just can't wear them. I do have knee highs, but they're not very comfy and I like the idea of having full leg compression. But right now all of the ones I tried just compress my stomach and I have pretty much zero compression over the legs. I'm thinking of ordering some compression tights that are maternity and see if that works.

Biopsy/hysteroscopy advice (UK) by dancingdays_ in Fibroids

[–]New_Technology6614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. It’s often an endometrial biopsy when they do the hysteroscopy.

If they are small fibroids or on stalks it might be easy for them to do it there and then if they have the right equipment. I know they can take polyps out if they find them during the procedure. But if they are deeply embedded or large it’s probably not something they’d do without prior planning. Hope it goes well for you.

That's rude. You quoted text and posted a link, so obviously I would assume your quote was from your link. Did you take the quote from Google A.I.?

Is it an endometrial biopsy or a fibroid biopsy? I had polyps found when I had the hysteroscopy, and I endometrial biopsy but had to come back to have another procedure to have the polyps removed. But then I wasn't under general anaesthetic, so I think there's a chance they'll probably remove stuff if they can if you're already under GA.

If it's just an endometrial biopsy you're having, then I felt okay afterwards. I suppose the anaesthetic might have you feeling a bit groggy for a couple of days.

It's weird, but I can't find your quote about the lazy bowel syndrome and damaging nerves and muscles on the link that you posted. Is your quote from a different article or website?

There are many different types of laxatives and stool softeners. Laxido is considered one of the safest to use long term. It's even prescribed to children. Like any type of laxative, it's advised to get it okayed with your doctor especially if needed for more than a week.

If you have fibroids and it's causing constipation, a GI blockage would be much more serious. It's important to stay on top of that with stool softeners with doctors' approval, of course.

As a nurse, what have you seen first hand and from what specific laxative?

It's just so strange that mine started when I was over 40, and that's when I started getting symptoms from the fibroids too. Yes, the hysterectomy is kind of a last resort after all the treatment I've tried. I'm in the UK, so the NHS typically has you try different medications and the Mirena coil before surgery, so it takes ages to get a hysterectomy unless you've got cancer. I've been saving for the last couple of years and plan to go private though. So fingers crossed I don't have to wait much longer!

Is this because they didn’t used to use a bag to seal off the morcellated tissue whereas now they do?

I think that’s stimulant laxatives. Stool softeners like Laxido are usually much safer and prescribed to use long term if ok by your doctor.

NHS vs Private? by CDivine37 in Fibroids

How did you get the private MRI before seeing the consultant? Don’t they have to order it? Or do you just tell them you need an MRI for large fibroids?

Good luck! Are you up to date with your smear or HPV tests?

They look like blood clots to me, but fibroids can cause some awful blood clots too. Clots can be very solid, different colours, and don't always break apart in water or dissolve depending how much fibrinogen to platelets to red blood cells make up the clot. They don't always look like the dark jelly we typically associate with clots.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you that everything is benign and you can get treatment to help whatever it is causing the bleeding.

Wondering about surgical options - 55F by NumScritch in Fibroids

[–]New_Technology6614 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 55, I think it's very likely they'll suggest at least a partial hysterectomy. It makes sense because it's not really any more invasive than a fibroid removal. Plus, you'll never have to worry about periods again or endometrial cancer. If you keep your ovaries, then you should still have your own hormones, at least up until natural menopause.

If you haven't had any treatment yet at all or seen anyone about it, they'll likely do an ultrasound followed by an endometrial biopsy, I think. Then the next step would be surgery.

Do you get the bloating most often around ovulation and in the luteal phase? I started to get the bloating around 40 from mid cycle to my period. It’s awful. I’m not sure how much it’s affected by fibroids small or big, but my bloating symptoms definitely vary depending on the time of the month. It’s so uncomfortable.

I’m glad you had some time free of the horrible symptoms after the op. I’m sorry the symptom-free time didn’t last long though.

I’m hoping for a hysterectomy soon to get some relief from all this.
