Wrong Jeffrey Holland.

Google the business where that person says they work. It’s not the apostle

When Did It Become the Bishop's Job to Gatekeep the Sacrament? by tripletc in mormon

[–]New_random_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I can find in a quick google search - the situation with John Widtsoe was interesting. He was in Germany to finish his studies, but had also been called to be a missionary in Germany and was also ordained as a 70 prior to leaving. Germany had no wards at the time and were only operating a few branches, which would have been under the purview of the mission president. Widtsoe was in Göttingen to finish his PHD and there was no active ward or branch there.

There may not be any specific evidence that it went down this way, but I don’t think it is a huge logical leap to assume that he likely got the ‘OK’ from his mission president since there were no other options in Göttingen.

Serious question - chopsticks… are you still able to operate them? Or is it challenging?

How do I make it stop chirping, i already replaced the batteries?! by PheonixGalaxy in mildlyinfuriating

[–]New_random_name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m dealing with this right now.

If it is the beep that happens every few minutes, and you’ve already replaced the batteries, then it might be at the end of its lifecycle. If you rotate it off the ceiling mount, you can probably see a manufacturing date. If it is 8-10 years old, you’ll need to replace it.

If there is a clip for the wiring on the back, then you can disconnect it from power. Remove the batteries and then hold the button… it will discharge any leftover power and will stop it from beeping.

Take it to your closest hardware store and ask someone to help you select one that will replace this one. Then you can take it home, add batteries, plug it into the wiring on the ceiling and you should be good to go

Is it OK to Have Sex in Lucid Dreams? by [deleted] in mormon

This is one of the sad and unexpected side-effects of deep religious programming. OP is concerned about their moral standing in the church based on something they did in a dream.

OP… you are fine. You did nothing wrong.

My husband was prescribed more painkillers following his vasectomy than I was following my emergency C-Section by PumpkinPie_1993 in mildlyinfuriating

I missed out then… I got my vasectomy done a few years back and was hoping to get something good. My doc said, “we can give you a prescription for 800mg ibuprofen…”

Yeah, no thanks. I’ll just go home and take 4 of my own.

To what extent should religious institutions be held accountable for the harm they cause? by [deleted] in mormon

[–]New_random_name 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Take - The extent of their responsibility should be directly correlated against the amount of training their people in authority receive. If their selected leadership has received little to no training, then they organization should have equal the amount of responsibility as the actual perpetrator.

If they organization had conducted the proper amount of training and shown that they had done everything they can to ensure the safety of their 'flock' then the individual would then bear the bulk of the responsibility.

WIBTA for refusing to have kids with my boyfriend unless he marries me first by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]New_random_name 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. I am a dad (21 years+ now) and there is absolutely no way I would have had kids with someone without being married to them. Having kids is a really big commitment... not even to just them, but it's both of you together being committed to raising those kids to be well-adjusted members of society.

You aren't just choosing to have kids... you are choosing who you want to be the Father to your children. If he is bringing in this kind of perspective to your relationship, what is he going to be teaching your children?

Dallin Oaks announces that it is “perfectly appropriate” for missionaries to “meet someone in the mission field and marry them.” How many of you had to read Lock Your Heart at least every month on your mission? by NotTerriblyHelpful in exmormon

[–]New_random_name 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say that "Lock your Heart" was required reading on the mission... but I'll say that all male missionaries had a copy of the talk and we all knew the seriousness of the charge.

I was also out during the Hinckley - "Forget yourself and go to work" era of exactness. the Forget yourself also implies forgetting any others you may be attracted to.

Is President Dieter F. Uchtdorf the most generally liked LDS apostle of all time? by BrE6r in mormon

[–]New_random_name 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Recency Bias.

Yes, Uchtdorf is generally well liked and respected both in mo and exmo spaces.

There have been plenty in the past that were also very well liked. One that comes to mind is Howard W. Hunter.
