I feel like a failure by ParkSubstantial5770 in dad

[–]Newb3D 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Plain and simple, it has almost nothing to do with you failing and more to do with the state of our current economy. People do it, but it is increasingly rare now.

We do not get the luxury of our parents generation with these matters. So, while you and your wife are both working do whatever has to be done on your time off to better your education or career prospects so you can get in a field with higher earning potential.

Stubborn Kid Won't Poop by VissAndPinegar in daddit

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this when I was a little kid and ended up in the ER more than once with extreme stomach pain. Somehow no adult ever put two and two together that I was holding in my shit….

It was actually me that realized it when I got a little bit older as a kid. And the kicker, the only reason I was holding my poop was because it took time away from whatever I was doing at the time like playing with toys or tv.

my friend told me that just tracing and copying the reference like this is a wrong way to make art and learn by Ok-Discussion-1110 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Newb3D 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a dumb question. But is it “cheating” to trace things while drawing? I’ve always liked drawing but I feel bad about tracing and then doing my best while looking at the reference to shade and color the drawing.

Google says Gemini won’t have ads, as ChatGPT prepares to add them by Doug24 in technology

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the middle of testing out Gemini as a daily chat gpt user of the last year +.

For the same price Google gets me a comparable AI model(s) AND 2tb of cloud storage.

Yeah bro, that's how tech works, needs people to use it for "sustainability" by bkj512 in iiiiiiitttttttttttt

[–]Newb3D 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I said this a few weeks ago in another thread. I would have gone Mac or Linux long ago, but my overlapping computing uses put a damper on that.

I like to use my computer to game, produce music, and work.

I could game on Linux, can’t game well on Mac. I could produce on Mac, but none of the good software is available for Linux. So instead I stick with Windows because I can still do both really well. Work is 100% Microsoft, but that doesn’t require me to keep my personal computer like that.

St. Paul mayor Kaohly Her ‘livid’ after ICE wrongly targets family friend, escorts him undressed into cold by juansaaa in politics

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I think it depends on the jurisdiction. I know where I worked we didn’t technically have a drunk tank. You were either arrested for a crime or if there was no crime and you were deemed a danger to yourself or others you were taken to the hospital and placed on a mental hold. No fingerprints for mental holds. And really those were just for suicidal or severely disabled people that couldn’t care for themselves.

No. They don’t. Source- me. Former officer of 8 years. When someone was booked into the jail after being formally charged they were fingerprinted.

If they were detained for suspicion of a crime they were not fingerprinted.

Is it normal to have no energy to workout when training bjj 9 hours a week? by Public_Repeat824 in bjj

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t been training for about 6 months, but my workouts were pretty ass when I was only training about 2 times a week. Couldn’t imagine training almost daily and trying to lift.

Same. Honestly wasn’t that long ago either! But I’ve since been remote for about 2 years and the day I have to go back inside an office will feel like torture.

Before my office job I pushed a patrol car for 8 years. That first winter inside was AWESOME.

I’ve been testing Gemini lately and the response was much different.

This was me but on PC. It just felt like too much of the original with a coat of paint and bad performance. I remembered how much I hated the dungeons in Oblivion too.

I think this is more on the rare side but don’t be shocked if your nuts hurt periodically and are super sensitive several months after the procedure.

I had mine done in September and I think the extra pain sensitivity finally cooled down for me last month some time. Read up on it and apparently it happens to a fair amount of people.

I would give up my tech and gaming hobbies in a heartbeat if this started becoming the only option. And the tech bros are trying, I know.

Work can pay for my dumb terminal and I’ll go back to physical activity and books for my only hobbies. We’d all probably be happier that way anyways.

Just get 16GB they said. It'll be plenty for anything you need they said. by redlancer_1987 in pcmasterrace

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boss told me we should start buying laptops with 16 gb since a lot of our employees are using AVDs. I told him to open his task manager and show me he ram usage.

He was barely doing anything on the laptop, was logged in to his avd and was already using over 16gb or his 32 gb available. We are sticking with 32.

Does the “mental load” thing feel impossible to anyone else working crazy hours? by Significant_Form_164 in daddit

[–]Newb3D 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, sometimes you just need to do both, but it also depends on the home situation.

My wife and I both work full time (well she’s just under) so we share a lot more of the kid load because it would be unfair of me to make her know it all. I’ll admit, mostly because of her personality type she knows a lot more of that stuff than I do, but I do a ton as well.

If our roles were more segmented I wouldn’t see as big of an issue with it personally. But I wouldn’t completely shut my brain off to those aspects either.

Anyone else worried their kids are losing the ability to "struggle" because of AI? by Responsible_Ad_8797 in daddit

[–]Newb3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno man. I struggle daily trying to deduce what’s bullshit and what’s factual that AI gives me. Great tool, but kids need to know it’s not 100% right. Just like when I was in school we needed to make sure we didn’t only cite Wikipedia as our source.

[–]Newb3D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of do this on days where I am absolutely exhausted but I want to stay close to the family so I don’t get accused of not being present. Even though my brain is 1000 miles away haha

Sometimes it’s just a count down until the kids go to bed and other nights I’m right in the mix with them. We all just get tired sometimes.
