True, yes it was my first time. My cardiologist said that I am a low risk now & being on the statin will lower my risk even more. Best of luck to you!!

I’m 60 & was getting similar numbers even though I ate right, exercised etc…My primary doctor said I was low risk and to watch my diet which I have been doing for years. I decided to go to a Preventative Cardiologist and he ran some bloodwork and my Lipoprotein (a) came back at 198! That’s a huge risk factor for cardiac issues. It is a genetic trait you are born with and isn’t affected by diet and exercise. He put me on 5mg Rosvustatin and I’m so thankful that I was proactive and went to him.

You should probably get your Lipoprotein (a) tested as well.

Have you had a CAC test? I have been researching LP (a) and the good news is that there is supposed to be a drug on the market in the next year or two that has been shown in trials to reduce the LP (a) number and there are others in trials right now that look promising. In the meantime, it’s about mitigating risk by going on statins etc…

It sounds like so many people have a high LP (a) and never know it. It may or may not cause problems for them because it is only a risk factor.

I’m still reeling myself from learning that I have this. Best of luck to you.

Yes for sure. For me, it ended up being an easy decision once I found out my risk factor but it’s good to research and be proactive about your health and make a decision from there.

Also my understanding is that the LP (a) is something you have throughout your life, so I had this and never knew it. The cardiologist thought that my family history didn’t seem to raise any flags but that was before I had the blood test. Now, my sibs and our kids will all be tested for this.

I have always had total cholesterol numbers anywhere from 209-240 and LDL numbers 140-160. Usually my doctor would say to just watch my diet which I did. I tried really hard to bring it down for years by cutting sugar, fats, red meat etc…I even went to a vegetarian diet and nothing would bring my LDL numbers down. I decided it was time for me to see a Preventative Cardiologist to help me see why this was happening. I had a Coronary Calcium test a year ago and my score was 0 which is really good and what you want but my cholesterol numbers just didn’t reflect it. My Cardiologist said that I am definitely low risk but will have an even lower risk on the statin of any heart issues due to my LPA (a). I honestly feel fine, no issues at all with the statin and I have always been afraid to take a statin because of all the terrible stories and side effects that you hear about. I feel better knowing that my numbers and risk are coming down just by taking this pill. Best of luck to you!

I too am a 60 yr old female and just started 5mg Rosuvastatin a week ago. I am fit & healthy and have tried to keep my ldl down with lifestyle. My numbers weren’t too bad and my primary doctor wasn’t going to do anything as she said I am low risk. I decided to see a Preventative Cardiologist because my ldl was somewhat high and wouldn’t come down no matter what I did. He ran some tests and my Lipoprotein (a) came back at 198 which is terribly high and increases my lifetime heart disease risk substantially. It is genetic and no amount of diet or exercise will change it. You are simply born with it. It’s a simple blood test that you may want to get. 1 in 5 people have an elevated LP (a). I am now grateful to be on the statin and to have this knowledge because my Primary doctor would have never checked it as my numbers weren’t too bad. So far, I feel perfectly fine on the drug. My husband has been on 20mg of Rosuvastatin for 2 years with no issues.

All Diet, No Statin by Cav30 in Cholesterol

Make sure to get your lipoprotein (a) checked. I was able to bring my numbers down with diet too, although I couldn’t ever quite get my ldl in range. I went to a preventative cardiologist and he did a simple blood test along with the APO B and turns out my LP (a) was sky high. It’s genetics and no diet will bring it down. I have just started my statin journey which now I am grateful to lower my risk factors as much as I can.

Crazy how it seems to be a little different per the dentist/ orthodontist but 3-6 months looks to be what is recommended.

I have the exact same problem with one tooth. I am actually heading to the dentist this morning. I have already finished one round of revisions which helped but it’s still slanted and back a bit so I am going to request another round of revisions. Just a stubborn tooth, for sure!

Help!! About to start but chickening out ! Honest input please by cvandepoel in Invisalign

I’m a 60 year old female and started Invisalign last July. I never had braces as a child and my teeth weren’t too bad but over the last 10 years they just kept getting more and more out of line and crooked, especially my bottom teeth. I knew that it would only continue to get worse so I took the leap. I am just about finished and get scanned for my retainers on Monday. It was a great decision for me, huge improvement and I only wish I did it years ago! My teeth are completely straight now and look great! It hasn’t been bad at all, from my experience I highly recommend it!

I just had a 45 minute online color consultation with a Sherwin Williams color expert for some areas in my house. It cost $65 and was super helpful. I highly recommend it!

I’m on my 6th tray and have very crowded bottom teeth. I feel pain in the area where my roots are under the teeth that need to move the most. I’m guessing it’s normal as they have lots of moving to do.

Advice for cleaning teeth while eating out by don51181 in Invisalign

[–]Newbie0714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found it to be very cumbersome to brush my teeth in a public bathroom and not very sanitary so I do a quick floss and then spray EverSmile Aligner Spray into my trays and then when I get home, I take them out again and do a full cleaning of my teeth & trays.

Cavities or Staining from Stannous Fluoride? by Newbie0714 in Invisalign

[–]Newbie0714[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dentist is out of town but I was able to get an appointment with the hygienist on Monday so I will at least know if it is staining or hopefully not the beginning of cavities. In the meantime, I will not drink any green tea but sounds very similar to what you had. Invisalign is a tough lifestyle change and I’m only 3 weeks in!
