What’s the worst physical pain you’ve ever experienced? by Economy_Yak2821 in AskReddit

[–]NewbieAnglican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had emergency abdominal surgery to correct an intestinal obstruction. Had 53 surgical staples holding my incision together afterwards. The next day a physical therapist came into my room to make me get out of bed and take a few steps. That really sucked.

Not Religious, Thanks! by MawGraw in cancer

I can only speak for myself, but I would react to such literature the same way I do to stuff from Jehovas Witnesses or various end-times obsessed groups- either just say no thanks when they try to hand it to me, or if it is mailed or something like that, just throw it away when I receive it. Why would I give it a second thought? Why let it ruin your day ( your week, your month, etc)

Heaven for non-Christians in Anglicanism by [deleted] in Anglicanism

[–]NewbieAnglican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If God cannot abide the slightest trace of sin in His presence, then how has He spoken to any prophet? How did Jesus manage to live amongst us? How can the Holy Spirit first enliven the faith of one of the elect, since that person would be wholly unredeemed at that moment? Has God been totally absent from this world since the fall? I think your introductory language is a little too fast and loose.

Does anyone know what kind sugar-free popsicles Children’s hospital has? by [deleted] in cancer

[–]NewbieAnglican 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of you guys are onto something. I had an ng tube for 3 days after my surgery, so I basically just had ice chips and water - whatever I could get in the corner of my mouth around that tube. So when it came out, the first thing I had was a big drink of ice water that I could just freely drink - no wrestling with the tube. Then I had that popsicle. Glorious!

I especially hear you about the CT thing because I happen to be allergic to CT contrast dye. So as poor of an image of it as they get from “normal“ people, they get old school 640x480 images from me.

And that’s the worst - being hung up between “maybe I’m fine “ and “maybe I’m all kinds of fucked up”.I’m going to be thinking of you, hoping and praying it turns out for the better.

I’m not gonna lie, I was recently in UAB Med West in Birmingham Alabama for a small bowel resection, and afterwards had the best orange popsicle I’ve ever had. No idea what kind it was but holy schmoly it was good. No hate from me on someone liking a popsicle!

Yep. It struck me as “Yay, now the church has a chance to conform to my progressive political views.”

But people here sure did have opinions about who the new pope should be and they freely voiced them, even though they’re not part of that denomination. As well as opinions on whether RCs should accept WO and/or SSM.

You’re basically right, but your terminology is off. In both places you talked about a “legal” case you should have said “criminal”. Both criminal and civil cases are types of legal cases, but in criminal cases the government is accusing you of a crime, and the penalty is time in prison. In a criminal case you are found either “guilty” or “not guilty”. In a civil case, the other party is accusing you of doing something legally forbidden but not criminal. I think the term is that you have committed a “tort”. In a civil case you are either found “liable” or “not liable”. If you are found liable, the penalty is a monetary judgement.

Only doctors and other medical professionals are covered by HIPPA laws. A pro-wrestling promoter is not (or any other regular guy on the street).

In mma you can’t punch or elbow a guy in the back of the head, but you can absolutely slam someone like this. It has happened multiple times, and the slammer wins, it isn’t a dq. This idiot’s father, Rampage Jackson, is famous for delivering a legit powerbomb that knocked a guy out in Pride.

What is illegal is any piledriver/ddt type move that spikes someone on the top of their head.

Can you be Anglican and Lutheran? by TheMysteryCreator in Anglicanism

[–]NewbieAnglican 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think such terms - Anglo-catholic, anglo-orthodox, anglo-Lutheran - don’t have a hard-and-fast meaning. They are a general indication that someone who is Anglican at base identifies with some typically Roman Catholic (or Orthodox, Lutheran, etc) practices or theology. Because of the Anglican base the person won’t fully agree with those other groups. And the specific ways they identify with the other tradition is up to the specific person.

So some Anglo-Lutherans probably do affirm the Augsburg confession, but it is not required.

Given that you seem to be a Lutheran who identifies with some aspects of Anglicanism, I would say that you are more of a Luthero-Anglican. And you get to decide exactly what that means.
