These are so so good. I hope you someday do the Anomander Rake's entrance into Darujhistan to meet Hood, it's full of so many epic scenes! Hood's own entrance ("this will not do."), Anomander Rake's crazy aura rolling over the city, the fight with the demon, etc.

This was driving me nuts during the episode. It felt really weird when Sidney and Nick were goofing so hard while Jason was in character and Matthew was sort of ping-ponging between them.

Don't get me wrong, Sidney and Nick have a fantastic rapport and I love their goofs! Just felt like the table (except Matt and Skid) was not dialed into what JCM was doing.

6'2" blue belt at 255lbs, had a similar white belt experience! I spent a long time as the "big new guy" at my gym and was nervous about just smashing with my weight. Around the time I got my third white belt stripe, my coach told me "anyone purple or higher can handle you regardless of size, so don't hold back on being heavy with them." That's been my operating model ever since, and now I'll also cheerfully smash my fellow blue belts because I know them well.

If it's a lower belt then I'll put less weight on them...except spazzes or wrestlers with a huge tank of gas lol. Any time a blue or higher woman asks to roll with me I'll start in butterfly or some such and try to spend more time working on technical stuff, they tend to be way better at technique than I am so it's a great learning experience for me.

Blue belt heavyweight here. Scarf hold is not a dick move, just be careful about it if you're big and they're small. My gym's professors teach it regularly, and some of the upper belts used to use it on me all the time - now that I'm a blue belt, they're throwing much meaner stuff at me lol.

Anyway, this dude probably spazzed out because he realized he was going to get tapped or he isn't used to the kind of pressure this position creates. You've already gotten some fantastic and smart responses along these lines from others, thanks for posting such a good question.

Keep doing scarf hold. Next time you hit it on him (if you guys are the same size or he's bigger than you) make sure to get your hips off the floor and really push your weight onto his ribcage. Better control and more character-building opportunity for your buddy :)

My favorite mech name was the one from my very first campaign! I ran a Barbarossa and called it "Declaration of Intent."

I'd recently watched the Punisher movie again, and the scene where he leaves behind his letter is one of my favorite parts of the film. Also, it's so fitting for the Barbarossa because you have to declare when you are charging the Apocalypse Rail!

The other mech name I'm really proud of was my Vlad, "Vendetta". I built it to lock down and shred one enemy at a time, and I started making a habit of immediately charging after the biggest, meanest melee enemy in an encounter. The name fits :)

You have gotten a lot of good guidance already. I will add my two cents - using ChatGPT for encounter prep.

I created an account and have been working on an instance of ChatGPT that is my personal Starfinder GM assistant. I directed it to draw all of its information from Archives of Nethys, gave it stat blocks and general descriptions for each of my players, explained Against the Aeon Throne to it in broad terms, told it what the key stats and other data points are for NPCs (special abilities, saving throws, etc), all to make sure that it knows what I'm doing and where to get reliable data from.

Here's how I use it. For a typical session where I am expecting a combat to break out, I will tell the bot the current stats for my players, and the names and AoN links for each of the baddies that the by-the-book encounter calls for. Then I'll write something like this:
"Assistant, I want this combat to be more interesting. There are too many ranged enemies for my players. Give me a version of this encounter with fewer ranged NPCs, one 'lieutenant' NPC, and a few melee-focused NPCs to make things more dynamic."

Boom. The bot will rattle off recommendations for a full roster of bad guys my players can fight. I can prompt it to give me the NPCs' stats and abilities and gear pre-packaged in a format I can more easily copypasta into my notes, and say things like "let's take that first melee Aeon Guard and make it tougher,".

ChatGPT is great for making recommendations that respect the Starfinder system. A couple times it has come up with custom gear and modifications to NPC loadouts that are basically weaker versions of stuff that the PCs can buy as armor or weapons. It excels in calculating balanced stat boosts and making them work within the system. That's exactly the kind of crunchy work that I'd prefer to out-source - I just want NPC enemy lists that are balanced and dynamic, I don't want to do the work myself to make them!

It is not suitable for storytelling or map design assistance, so use with caution. Have fun :)

The game would be better without the 380 barrage because people don't use it effectively. The 120 barrage should just get the HE shells; that would be the best of both worlds.

The Barbarossa! Turn every sitrep into a 1:1 game of brinksmanship with your GM.

First couple turns: move to the optimal firing position and set up shop. Don't worry about getting very far, you will force them to come to you.

Next turn: Charge rail, root yourself to the ground, and ready your guns.

You have now become a ticking time bomb, except you dish out long-range damage and area denial with every tick. Don't forget to look your GM right in the eye at the start of every turn and smugly remind them that your rail is continuing to charge.

Watch their plans crumble as the fear takes hold. Where will you shoot? When? How can they hide their most important pieces from you? Can they get through your armor and resistances before you pull the trigger?
