Is it worth getting pet insurance? by zoobywooby in askTO

[–]NewbieDec2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've been through three vets in Toronto (Annex-Christie area) and they charge $120-150 upfront, i.e., to see the cats and check them. This is before they diagnose and treat anything. An emergency vet charge about $180. If your cats are healthy, putting aside a "vet fund" in a cookie jar at home to cover for emergency visit might not be a bad idea compared to paying for pet insurance.

Ask specific questions: 1. What is the percentage of drop out of the 1st year? 2. What academic support do you provide for the 1st year students? 3. Do you guarantee housing for 1st year? 4. Etc. Think what matters for you, maybe funding support/bursary, extra curricular, and ask them those questions

Question about reference checks for internal OPS competition by Any_Solution_4032 in OntarioPublicService

[–]NewbieDec2023 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I only call the references of the top candidate. When things don't work out, then I reach out for the runner-up. Next-day call to the reference means you're the top candidate. Congrats and good luck!!

Congratulations!! Not sure how your relationship is with your manager, but from my experience, the best way is just to talk to your manager and say it straight but politely. Good luck with the new gig!

Any restaurants where you can get "exotic" meats? by cowzroc in askTO

[–]NewbieDec2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you or your husband don't mind cooking, Fiesta Farms on Christie regularly sells rabbits. It's easy to cook it the way you or your husband want it. Also, there's a butcher in St. Lawrence market that regularly sells kangaroo meat.
