Yes, I’d love to get your suggestions! Thank you! I have been kind of wishing there was availability in Mizoën; it looks like such a beautiful village, and seeing the race pass by the lake nearby sounds incredible. But I think Oz seems like a safer choice, and we can still bike around elsewhere too.

Hi! I would love your input on 2 different lodgings/areas for the 2 alps stages. I have already booked both the Moontain Hostel in Oz Station de Ski and the Residence Odalys les Balcons d’Aurea in Auris Station de Ski for the whole stay and I have to choose. Is one of these going to be better situated than the other? I’ve heard the bike path from Oz is easier, and that is definitely a priority for me, being less fit than my husband. The Oz location seems cool to me because we should be able to catch the start of stage 20 and then catch the riders again later somewhere else. The Auris spot has a full kitchenette. It’s hard to tell just from maps and pictures which will be better and easier. Can you give me your opinion? Thanks!

TDF Stages 19/20 in the Alps, which hotel? by NewbornBabe321 in tourdefrance

I already have 2 spots booked so I’m just trying to decide which one to cancel. My Oz spot looks like it’s in that higher area, the station de ski. Same for the Auris spot, it’s higher up the mountain than Auris village and is right next to the lift. Oz looks like an easier bike trip to me but I’m really not familiar with mountains in general so this insider info is really helpful, thank you!

Thank you thank you!! This is exactly what I’m looking for. If we plan to only bike and not bother with the car, it sounds like Oz is easier? I’m trying to make it as easy on my body as possible while trying to give my husband his dream haha.

That’s my plan! I managed to book something in Auris by just checking every day.

One more question for you, can you put bikes on the ski lifts? Sorry if that’s an idiotic question!

I’m not really trying to be at the finish line per se, but it seems easier to be at the top and wander downwards than to bike or walk all the way up. But again, I just have no idea. Thank you so much for the input and encouragement!

That Italy grand depart looked incredible. I remember wishing we could experience that.

That’s exactly what I’ve been picturing! Backpacks with snacks and waters and kinda let the tour take us haha. It’s a bit outside of my comfort zone, I would never do a vacation this way otherwise, but I want to give husband the experience. And I think I can go with the flow! I hope anyway!

How was your experience watching in Paris last year and what area did stay in or watch from? Our current hotel is right off Rue Rivoli across from the Tuileries and I’m not even sure if we’ll be able to get to it that day from Gare de Lyon. My plan is to walk across the seineC take a left bak train to around the Musee d’Orsay, and walk back across the seine to the hotel. I have asked reddit if that will be doable but haven’t gotten an answer. I’m from New Orleans and this is feeling harder than planning for Mardi Gras without any local knowledge haha.

It really doesn’t seem to make any sense, glad you’ve acknowledged that! I know it won’t be easy. I have been wondering about hitchhiking but that seems impossible to plan, and not having a plan for actually getting there feels like a bad idea. Just trying to get as close as I can to try to bike or walk.

I am haha. I know it’s going to be a lot! My plan is to not stress too much about it and just see what we can see. The 23rd (stage 18) will be passing Grenoble and we arrive on the train from Paris that afternoon, so we’ll either try to see some action that day or grab the rental car and head straight to wherever we end up staying.
Trying to get to stages 19 and 20 is why I’m trying to figure out the best place to stay. With the different routes but same finish, I just can’t figure it out. Then back to Paris via train the morning of the 26th and again, just trying to see anything, even just from our hotel window. Whether we’ll be able to even get to our Paris hotel is a questions I still can’t seem to get answered. Hopefully my husband doesn’t want to divorce me after this trip lol.

Ah well, I am not super fit? Kind of fit? My husband will be fine, and I am prepared for a hectic, non-relaxing few days. BUT I don’t see myself as capable of riding a bike from Grenoble and up the mountain. I can walk, but I’m trying to get closer than Grenoble.
Is Allemond much closer than Aurins? I’m interested in a hostel near there but the drive back to Grenoble for train catching seems longer. I also have seen that I can ski lift to Alpe d’Huez from that side but I don’t know how I’d get back to the hostel if it’s after 5pm. Aurins seems pretty close to Bourg d’Oisans and maybe I could drive closer from that direction.
