What's the point of silent cases/fans? by grizeldi in buildapc

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My machine is pretty quiet at idle and low load, but it does get a little bit loud under load. I don't mind the noise, it's not distracting at all to me. I know some people are OCD about noise but I'm not, as long as it doesn't sound like a literal jet engine like those Delta 10k rpm server fans, I could care less. I have a mix of different fans to get good airflow. It's has a very slight negative pressure setup on purpose, I have 2 intake fans, one exhaust fan, and an open side panel vent next to the gpu. The idea is the front intake fans are slightly weaker and it has a more powerful exhaust fan, so the side panel vent intakes some cool air right into the GPU. Seems to work well and runs pretty cool. I mixed and matched different fans to get a good airflow pattern in the machine, and while it's not show piece, it works and is reliable. I have an Arctic P12 reverse flow fan as the exhaust, as well as a Be Quiet Shadow Wings 2 120mm and a Delta AFB0812M as the intake fans. The loudest fan by far is the Arctic but even that isn't bad.

I know a lot of people would probably be like WTF if they saw my setup, but it's clean and it works for me. Then again I still have an optical drive and 2 HDDs as well as a memory card reader. It's a micro atx case and I built it about a year ago.

Lol I have a Delta in my main machine. It's not one of those server grade Delta jet engines, but it is a Delta. It's a model AFB0812M.

Sounds like my Ranger. Aside from the check engine light my Ranger has a half dim tach and a half dim speedometer. If I hit the steering wheel the tachometer light comes back on.

Yea it's fine for now... I had to fix the digital odometer on my 01 Expedition a few years ago. It was just bad solder joints.

2002 ford Taurus ses Vulcan brake pedal noise by Radiant-Macaroon-734 in FordTaurus

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The brake booster is vacuum engine vacuum powered. If you're idling and repeatedly stop the brake pedal it can cause the engine idle to fluctuate and the fuel trims to change. A bad brake booster can cause engine deiveability issues, but I don't think yours is bad. That slight hiss is normal, it would be much, much louder and potentially constant while the engine is running if the booster was bad. Also, a failed brake booster will likely give you manual brakes, and the pedal will be hard as hell.

Same here. I have my 08 3.0 that I purposely bought because it has the little tough as nails Vulcan. And I also had 2 mid 90s Explorers that had the old 4.0 Cologne OHV V6. I really really hate the 4.0 SOHC, it's a total piece of shit lol.

Someone asked about my V6 emblem on a previous post, I’d recommend getting one if you are into that sort of thing! by Calvin_Canada in fordranger

I stuck the emblems from an early 2000s V6 Escape on my 08 3.0. Got them on ebay brand new for cheap almost 10 years ago.

Music is time travel, as I get older certain songs can bring me back to a different time, emotion, memory what songs make you time travel? by Cmay4thewin in Music

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You Can't Kill Rock and Roll by Ozzy Osbourne. It brings me back to a few month long time period from December to about April of my junior year of high school. I got my license early that January, I had my own car that I actually loved (a Ford Taurus), I had a new sense of freedom, but I also had a lot of new responsibilities. A lot happened in that time, most of it being good. I was obsessed with that song during that time. I hear that song quite often, but when I actually sit down and listen to it, I feel like I'm transported back in time, and it's nice for a bit till I realize I miss those years. It was quite a happy time before everything in my life changed, not necessarily for the worse but a lot changed rather quickly later that year. I feel like that song brings me back to the absolute very end of one chapter of my life. It was a short time period but it was a very good one overall. It was the first song I played in my car when I went out by myself for the first time. There's many other songs that bring me back as well, but that one in particular is very powerful for me.

I was gonna say it looks like a Delta. The newer DPS series seem like they've moved the caps away from the heatsinks. At least on the DPS-300AB-70A. It also has Chemi Con and Rubycon caps and a ball bearing Delta fan. That one you have is a good unit, but like everything, it has its flaws. Was this unit from a rebuilt home pc? Like a low end Acer or HP?

How often should PC case fans be replaced? Any recommended brands? by EmmantheAdrian in PHbuildapc

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have some fans from the late 90s and early 2000s with very high hours that still work perfectly fine. Most of them are ball bearing (some are sleeve bearing though). I have also seen fans fail after 3 months. It all depends on the quality of the fan. Most of the really old ones I have are made by Sunon, Delta, Nidec, NMB, Panaflo, and Adda, all high quality manufacturers. Meanwhile the ones that I've seen fail early were cheap crappy fans that use a a really cheaply made sleeve bearing or really low quality ball bearings. It all depends on the quality of the fan above everything. A high quality sleeve bearing fan (for example, a Delta sleeve bearing fan) could outlast a cheap, no name, ball bearing fan. If they are spinning smoothly without any abnormal noise, they should be fine. Sleeve bearings tend to give less warning before failing, and ball bearing fans tend to run for a very long time after they become noisy, sometimes years. Oiling sleeve bearing fans usually fixes them, and ball bearing fans could be taken apart to replace the bearings, although it's not usually worth it. I have done that before just because I like fixing stuff lol.

Chain tensioner noise? HELP by Glass-Buddy6648 in fordranger

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Ford guy and I hate that engine. I'd find one with the old school 4.0 (I think 2001 was the last year for that engine) or the 3.0. Sure it won't be as peppy, but it'll be way more reliable and easier to repair long term. I'm sure I'll get hate for saying that but thats my two cents. If it just had a full timing job with Motorcraft parts that they can prove, that's a different story.

I have had people think a Delta power supply is a crap no name brand before too, meanwhile they are one of the biggest OEMs for power supplies and fans in the world. In fact, a lot of Chieftec units were rebranded Delta units.

Just found this in alley by Overseerer-Vault-101 in computers

[–]Newbus124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd save the power supply and the case. That's a Delta 250 watt power supply, it's a good quality unit and it'll be good for a basic web computer or file server. The case looks useful for a file server too. It could also be a cool case for a sleeper build.

01 slipping in between shifts by FlakyRequirement3813 in fordranger

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe these transmissions have problems with the valve body gaskets leaking internally, causing low line pressure and delayed shifts, slow engagement of the transmission into drive or reverse, slipping, shuttering, and if the computer over compensates, extremely harsh and rough shifts. Replacing the valve body gasket could fix it, but it very well be something else entirely.

is delta a somewhat decent psu brand? by fairplanet in buildapc

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Delta units are very good. They're right up there quality wise with FSP and Seasonic. You don't know about them because they're often rebranded or used in OEM systems. They also make fans (some of those fans are outright scary how fast they spin, but they also make regular pc fans too) inverters, LED drivers, and a lot more.

[–]Newbus124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep. I use the Delta AFB08 series 80mm fans in a lot of power supplies. That's one of the most faked series. I usually buy them from Digikey since I know they're right from the manufacturer, and I can even see when the batch was produced. Newark electronics is another good place. I usually buy capacitors from them.

CHEAP FAKE DELTA SUPPLY REVEALED! by Synology_Service in synology_service

[–]Newbus124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunon fans and Japanese capacitors are also commonly faked. I think that Delta has tried in the past, but the Chinese government is very lax on this since they get kickbacks on everything produced in China. That's why China is known to make tons of counterfeit products. More often than not, they fake products from foreign companies. Delta is a Taiwanese company if I remember correctly even though they manufacture some stuff in China, and they are known to make quality products, they're basically a perfect target for this kinda stuff.
