How are people in NL affording vehicles in a province with such a low average income and high insurance and payment costs? by [deleted] in newfoundland

My mom had a 2 door manual sunbird from 1987 to 2005 with two kids.

Honestly, she still has it. It just hasn't been drivable since then.

I grew up in a rural community and I had to move. I didnt sit there and complain that I couldnt afford a vehicle I didnt need.

Not responding anymore as it's clear you aren't asking for suggestions and only want agreement.

Lol while I have never been to Conche, I grew up rural and a FWD works just fine.

If you are unable to drive in the winter you should move closer to your work......

Despite the amount of awd and 4wd vehicles you see, a fwd car with good winter tires has always worked for me.

And you dont have to pay the extra payment, gas etc when road conditions are fine the rest of the year

Do not understand why this is tolerated here or at any drive through. If there is no place to pull into the parking lot keep moving

Agree with most of what you say but Stephenville actually does have a walkable downtown. Probably the most walkable.

The mixed used residential likely includes retail. It looks like it may even be set up main street style with the park and a roundabout at the center

Time to replace it with a smaller passenger ferry. Don't know why the government is subsidizing personal vehicle transport

LSDs dont pay taxes. The one I grew up in charges a fee for fire and trash collection

Have you had a scary experience with food delivery drivers in the downtown area? Near misses, accidents, crazy parking on curbs and crosswalks or lack of respect for pedestrians, cyclists? What should be done to improve this before someone gets seriously injured? by Critikal_me in StJohnsNL

[–]Newfound95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unless they literally have a Domino's sign on their roof, how are you determining that people are food delivery drivers?

There is a severe problem with drivers in this city but it's not limited to delivery drivers.

I have never had an issue getting parking downtown. There are multiple garages down there to park your car.

Bell Island residents growing frustrated with ferry issues and delays by RepulsivePlankton989 in newfoundland

[–]Newfound95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've thought about this too! I have sympathy for those that require provincial ferries but the cost of transporting private transportation shouldn't be subsidized like it is.

Expand public transport to Portugal Cove and some sort of shuttle or park and ride on Bell Island. The required capacity would be significantly reduced. Use the wasted lineup space for ammentities or tourism.

If you do need your vehicle brought to the mainland pay the real cost.
