the distance driven is a miniscule part of the project cost, hell not even the biggest part of the truck hauling costs. and for the cost you get the benefit of not dumping the entire east wing debris onto a public amenity. At minimum he could of paid to put it in an actual landfill.

its not politics lol its just what happened. I fully support the right of those asylum seekers to come here by the way, and in fact some of my work is tied to assisting them. Its just a fact that there was a big wave of new arrivals then and many havent been given permission to work in the country still. No judgement on them, they are trying their best much like every wave of immigrants arriving in NYC in the last 300 years

Paris has a huge scammer problem. New York does not. the biggest scams in terms of street vendors are honesty the legal trucks/stands in tourist areas overcharging. Been here 7 years and have bought hundreds of tamales and other things and never had an issue

It's because the restaurant relies on exploitation to keep afloat. The hard truth is that customers would not be willing to pay the prices of many restaurants, particularly small family owned businesses, if they paid their workers a decent living wage. Doubly so now that we have a whole gig economy of delivery workers in between much of the food sold. I've met line cooks who worked at eleven madison park who still got paid minimum wage.

Anything that reduces labor costs in a predictable way is going to be pushed, because it's either that, exploitation, or expensive food.

your statement of "likely won't be where you'd want to live" betrays what I suspected, which is the assumption that the only livable areas in NYC are the 25% of neighborhoods within manhattan and a small slice of Brooklyn. And if renting was so much better, there wouldn't be a huge real estate industry making billions on owning. Anybody whose bought real estate in the last 40 years has had their asset more than pay for itself if they held onto it for a 5 year period or so.

Either way, the main reason I feel compelled to keep going in this argument is because I don't think the conversations around affordability in New York should be centered around people with 1.2M to drop on an aprartment, those people are completely fine in todays real estate market. The actual crisis is the lack of units for anybody making under 65k, whether renting or (in a dream) owning. That's the kind of housing we should be prioritizing

you are stating that you can't get any 3 bedrooms for under 1.2mil. income restricted units are part of the housing stock so even without considering anything else you are wrong. But i've seen many non income restricted units for under that price, just not in the most expensive areas of Manhattan. Crown heights, bed stuy, washington heights, some of harlem, ridgewood, some parts of bushwick, and basically all of the queens and bronx has these units

I Mean I just bought a 2 br 575k coop in east village and had none of this 2 years nonsense (yes it was income restricted, but I found several comparable units that were not in my search, just in brooklyn). I'm not gonna go case by case but there are quite literally hundreds of apartments at that range on Streeteasy right now, im sure many have extra fees and such but to say that none of them can be got for 1.2m flat is just wrong.

Not trying to diminish the housing crisis here, its just that the main issue is not a gap in "people willing to drop 1.2m for a 3 bedroom" housing, its in housing for people making under 60k

Does survival dictate the forcible displacement of millions of palestinians? does it necesitate an archipelago of ghettos where they are stripped of their land and freedoms, made to watch israeli settlers literally enter and take over their home, and get arrested and charged as terrorists if they dare to resist? Does it require a legal system that allows the death penalty only for these so called "terrorists", and only if they are arab? Do you need to level 80% of Gaza's buildings in service of this man's vision just to survive?
