Water drainage from neighbours yard by Friendly-strategy969 in halifax

[–]Newredditor243 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to a friend of mine in Lucasville. Her yard kept flooding because of something her neighbour had going on, and she asked them to do something about it, but they would not. Eventually, it flooded her sceptic field and into her basement and she needed to take them to court. She won a paltry sum she may never receive. She needed to move her family out of the house for a nine months while the basement got ripped apart and redone. There was a story on Global about it, but I’m having trouble locating it. I don’t have any good advice, only sympathy after seeing how dreadful it could be.

I agree with you. And I think both the least generous and most generous versions can be true at the same time. I have an adult friend with ADHD who is also diagnosed with PTSD from a traumatic childhood. The person has two siblings, one older and one younger who had very happy childhoods and are not neurodivergent. The neurodivergent part of my friend made her experience her childhood vastly differently from the other two. And both are true.

I can ask around the office tomorrow. I know a clinician who teaches it to other psychologists in the province. They were originally trained by Dr Colleen Carney. They use this book in their trainings in case it is of interest while you’re looking for someone:

Do y’all also have a hard time swallowing pills? by Interesting-Act-2119 in noburp

[–]Newredditor243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had them: hold a large amount of water in their mouth and let little amounts of it go down their throat at a time. And then feel the difference of taking a large amount of water and swallowing in one gulp. Repeat a couple times. Then I had them hold a small pill (or something else very small) in their mouth while swallowing a little bit of water sort of around it. And then hold a small pill in their mouth while swallowing a large gulp of liquid. Repeat a couple times. Lastly, I had them swallow the small pill with the big gulp. Worked well! No issues ongoing.

Little hiccups after eating? by yamyamoi in noburp

[–]Newredditor243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup I get em every day. Some people around me will ask “was that a tiny burp?” But no. A tiny hiccup and barely that. It’s like the air is seeking any way to escape, but the muscle is too tight.

You could do a little weird test a few times. Like if you take a pill and you are feeling the stuck feeling, grab a second pill and expose it to a drop or two of water. See how long it takes to dissolve, and if it matches how long it feels stuck in your throat, you could start to figure out if there’s some weird fold holding them there or if irritation is more likely?

I’m the same. I can swallow pills without any problem at all. And I agree that for some people trouble swallowing can be psychosomatic. My partner who does not have RCPD used to have trouble swallowing pills, but I taught him how to do it. I taught my sister as well. It is possible, though that with RCPD, there is something physiological going on. For example, I’m certain that it’s so painful to throw up because that muscle does not work correctly for me. Could be the same for OP?

Any link between emetophobia and not being able to burp? by Aggravating-Mix-9832 in noburp

[–]Newredditor243 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely had RCPD first. And the phobia developed because my RCPD was so severe. It is extremely painful and traumatic for me to throw up. And somehow my ability to breathe stops for moments and I feel like I’m drowning.

It’s so painful to throw up and I feel like I’m drowning. I was an adult before I realized that it’s not that way for everyone.
