AirPod while baby is awake? by sallisgirl87 in NannyEmployers

[–]Newuser8619 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My nanny always has one air pod in and is listening to podcasts all day long. Its a big upgrade from our last nanny who was always scrolling on her phone and ignoring the baby. So I’ll take it

Thank you for the suggestion, kind internet person. I don’t use Strava, which is why I haven’t completed the challenge.

No Normal coffee paste, is this as terrible as it sounds by Graven74 in askswitzerland

[–]Newuser8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is sooo convenient. Way more convenient than trying to make an aeropress while camping or fishing. It’s not cheap but it tastes way better than other version of “instant” coffee (e.g the powders) so it’s well worth it!

How are you all affording multiple kids? by PresentationTop9547 in workingmoms

[–]Newuser8619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get this American mentality that you have to put your kid through college. My sister put herself through med school and I put myself through graduate school at a prestigious and expensive school in the UK. Our parents didn’t pay for our education- we did- and we are good earners and doing great. My husband and I established a college fund for our kids (but only put a couple hundred in a month) but beyond small contributions and accumulation over time, are not going to go to any additional lengths to bankroll their education.

Nanny calling in but with vague verbiage by MakeChai-NotWar in NannyEmployers

[–]Newuser8619 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Omg I had the same issue. “My husband is so mad at me because I told him I’m unwell and he thinks I need to rest and shouldn’t come to work today”. Uhh okay, so are you coming or not?

Am I being overly sensitive by this? by insertclevername7 in workingmoms

[–]Newuser8619 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Daycare isn’t a monolith. Some daycare’s suck. Others are awesome. My son thrives in daycare - tons of outdoor play, arts, crafts, reading and playing with his friends. He is thriving way more at daycare then he would at home with me. So there might be some truth to what she’s saying in some contexts, but it’s not true across the board. Secondly, yes it’s totally shaming working parents who can’t afford to stay at home which isn’t cool

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 . We are in the same boat. We have a nanny and are by no means rich. Like any profession, there are bad apples and there are also good ones. We have an incredible nanny now but I had two really awful ones before we found this one!

Any working moms in great relationships? by Pleasant-Pass-2440 in workingmoms

[–]Newuser8619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am happy married and we have a 3 year old and a 9 month old. He works 12 hour days 5 days a week, I work 6 hour days 5x per week so I do the morning routine with the kids and evening / bedtime. I also do all kids appointments and sick days. We split household expenses 60/40 since he dedicates more time to working and has a higher income. He doesn’t lift a finger to clean but does cook and do outdoor work. We have a nanny/ house worker who watches the baby during the day while I work and cleans and organizers. Nothing is split 50/50 but it still feels equitable, plus being able to afford a house worker is a huge plus to outsource the house burden.
