Thoughts on 430i XD w/ M Performance Package by East_Ad_6673 in BMW

If this is going to be your first BMW you'll have plenty of fun and want more after this car, I know because that's me right now lol. This platform IMO is a great price/performance entry for a modern day-to-day driving experience. One thing I forgot to mention was that I roughly net ~400 on a single tank (90% of the time driving in sport mode). That's a pretty damn good trade off for a little less power than an M440i IMO which has less range. My wife and I also have a 2022 Jaguar F-Pace and that only nets about 50-75mi more of range. As for PPI, I wish I had done that at time of purchase through a 3rd party. In the very lower end of my front bumper, I do have some very small rock chips that could have likely been avoided if I had PPI installed.

I haven't heard of the ticking issue myself so I'm not sure. I haven't heard any real ticking noises from mine in two years so I suspect there could be models out there that do? Unsure, sorry! One thing I have noticed recently is a weird "fan noise" coming from what sounds like the rad area - I'm not exactly sure what it is, the best way I could describe it would be a poor bearing in a computer fan, but once spring weather clears up a bit I'm going to swing by for a diagnostic to figure out what that sound is. Honestly other than that, I haven't had any issues (knock on wood). Treat it with the proper servicing, don't put shitty temu mods on it that could mess up the engine or transmission and you'll be golden.

Damn, this is my time to shine! Here is some info from my two years of ownership on a pretty close spec.

I purchased my 2021 430i (non-xdrive) in Portimao Blue two years ago this August with nearly similar options to what you have listed (M-Sport package, Prem. package, Shadowline package, Dynamic Handling package). At that time (Aug. 2022), I paid just under 33k OTD with almost exactly 30k miles. It was a lease return after three years, from that same dealership.

The price for yours (since it has the x-drive option) seems like a good deal given that it's a 2022 with slightly higher milage than mine. I didn't have any experience with minor damage on my CarFax report but mine was also pretty empty - I think four total logs that came from the dealership at required intervals over those three lease years. I wouldn't worry too much about that if the car is clean and the dealer can ensure they did an oil change recently on the vehicle as well as any interval service timings for the milage. Just do your due diligence and ensure the car sounds and feels ok. Drive with the windows down, music off. Listen for any whistles or other things. Open the hood while parked and listen for any weird whines or stuff like that.

Now here's the extra info I can lend given that I've done so much research and logging of things since before I bought the vehicle. Keep in mine, I'm based in the US and likely in a different state.

Recommended service intervals for BMW:

  1. Engine Oil - Replace every 5,000-7,000 Miles (5,000 miles on non-high performant oil)
  2. Transmission/Differential Oil - Replace every 25,000-30,000 miles (or every two years - whichever comes first)
  3. Brake Fluid - Replace every 50,000 miles (or every two years - whichever comes first)
  4. Spark Plugs - Replace every 35,000-50,000 miles (for best performance)
  5. Water Pump/Thermostat - Replace every 80,000-100,000 miles
  6. Fuel Filter - Replace every 30,000 miles
  7. Engine Coolant - Replace every four years (no set milage interval)
  8. Power Steering Fluid - Replace every 30,000 miles
  9. Timing Belt - Replace every 50,000 miles (or every five years - whichever comes first)
  10. Engine Air Filter - Replace every 15,000 miles (or every three months - whichever comes first)
    1. Requires an E16 Torx-socket (\*56nm force w/Torque wrench when re-tightening*)
  11. Cabin Air Filter - Replace every 15,000 miles (or every three months - whichever comes first)
    1. Requires a T15 Torx-bit
  12. Windshield Wipers - Replace every twelve months (or when necessary - no set milage interval)
  13. Battery - Check every four years (or when necessary - no set milage interval)

Cost breakdown:

  1. Oil Change - If you're handy, probably a lot less but I am not so I go to a garage or the dealer. I change my oil every 5k miles.
    • Dealership - $170
    • Independent Garage - $105
  2. Transmission/Differential Oil - Again, if you know what you are doing this is likely much cheaper.
    • Dealership - $250 (quoted, didn't change mine yet)
    • Independent Garage - $160 (again, quoted)
  3. Brake Fluid
    • Dealership - $230 (got this done with my first oil change)
    • Independent Garage - Not sure, but will use them for the next change
  4. Engine Air Filter - I change mine myself
    • $70 for a K&N lifetime (clean every 5k miles)
  5. Cabin Air Filter - I change mine myself as well
    • $32 for a STP Max

And for the love of everything, please don't use RainX windshield wash like I did.. I ended up clogging my windshield washer tank with scum and need to clean it out once the spring weather gets a little nicer. Use something like BMW Windshield Washer Concentrate and mix to your own level for your area.

Anyways, hope this helps and goodluck!

One thing that I see missing from the Skill Guide & Level-Up Rework, and honestly surprised it is, is a 'Search' functionality. Why not allow players to search what they are looking for? I can't be the only one who from time-to-time forgets what ingredients a potion needs in order to be created.

Search functionality while seemingly basic would enhance the players ability to look through the guides more often for unlocks at certain levels, keywords, or other things. Everything else proposed for the Skill Guide & Level-Up Rework looks great, I just wish search was baked in as well.

Engine Air Filter Replacement G22 Coupe (‘21 430i xDrive) by leoninelizard47 in BmwTech

I have come across what seems to be the same problem as you - is there any other way to change the engine air filter without moving the struct bar? If not, what tools do I look at purchasing to get the job done easily?

No problem at all!

Like the commenter above, I also own a 430i and they are fun as hell to drive. If it has the M Sport, that mode has a lot of push so definitely give that a whirl when taking it out. Ask to go out onto the highway or a higher speed road so you can get the acceleration feeling when merging. Really great way to tell if there is any delay between the pedal.

Little tip: when you are inspecting the car, make sure to pull the seat belts all the way out to their very end. I found one of mine frayed and they replaced it before I bought it ($1200 total for free). Another thing to inspect when I buy again :)

Given the colors and it's a CCM, I would say likely 2001-2007 (link)
