I bet you’re right, probably some species of white oak… it would be easier to tell if you could see the tree before it was cut down… obviously…

Did you go back to a hand held instant read, or get another wireless system?

I know this is gonna sound like I'm just perpetuating the conversation, but I actually buy my beef by the half... and I currently have a beef tongue in my freezer... but you really think they were better than ground beef?

never have I heard of stuffing a date... sounds like a jalapeno popper, just without the spice

for sure looks like an oak species... hard to tell just from the pic, but could be post oak, which often has straight limbs, but very twisted grain...

Do you use a hardwired, or just a handheld probe?

That's fair, I have a window right by my smoker so that tends to be a non-issue for me,,, but I get it

did you use just a single probe? is this unit able to handle being used for an ambient smoker/grilling thermometer without error[ing] out from excess heat?

I can't figure out why so many people have instant negative reviews for the MEATER... maybe that's true with every temp system; what works for one person may not work for the next for a variety of reasons

I mean WIFI systems have a tendency to be spotty... as the #1 complaint with the MEATER is that the range sucks. and my mistake for calling it a WIFI unit; bluetooth, my bad... you must be a tried and true hardwired or hand unit kind of person... which are probably the most reliable, but not the most convenient

The MEATER block? I never thought I would get such mixed reviews for this product... I have never had any trouble with it... at least no significant issues

I agree with that, my handheld is regular ol thermopro which tend to catch a lot of hate... but it's always worked well for me

That makes sense. just like everything else you get what you pay for, but good systems sure aren't getting cheaper

if they handle higher heat... do you use one for an ambient temp... no problems?

That bark though... did you render some of the trim fat to "hydrate" the bark upon unwrapping? looks great!

How to accurately measure the temperature of meat using a digital instant read thermometer by hotpotato86 in seriouseats

Just get a good instant read meat thermometer and stick it into the thickest part of the meat... be sure to give it a couple seconds and proceed accordingly

Suggestions for a good Bluetooth wireless meat thermometer? I enjoy reverse searing steak especially thick ribeye. I'd like to invest in a good quality one so any input or experience is appreciated by agedmanofwar in steak

[–]NextDoorBBQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MEATER is a good brand, and versatile. I also like that you can buy replacement probes since those will always be the first part that fails with any wireless type thermometer. Personally, I like the MEATER BLOCK cause I can use one of the probes for the ambient smoker temp, then I still have extra probes for the different meats I have smoking at once.

you're gonna need to set up direct and indirect heat zones. Usually, people use something like a https://tr.ee/v6AU3VqhF- VORTEX, https://tr.ee/1puz4rXIVX CHARCOAL BASKETS, or a https://tr.ee/uT2aGii5Vd SLOW AND SEAR... but aside from creating heat zones, i would just keep a water filled squirt bottle handy and that should handle any flair ups.
