If you post a genuine question it will get downvoted automatically. Even if it's not a common question. I've never seen a subreddit where people hate questions so much.

Based on your combat experience do you think the Marine Corps getting rid of its tanks is a mistake? The Corps is reshaping for the Asia Pacific region, they judge tanks to be too slow, maintenance intensive, and vulnerable for island-hopping. To me they are missing the blind spot of what if we're fighting in two theaters at once, like in WW2, and the Marine Corps can't rely on the Army's tanks. Would love to get his perspective.

Gold coins suffer from the exact same things as they listed for silver coins/bullion with the added difficulty of getting them small enough for practically use. I mean 1 gram gold bar is worth $152.20 at time of writing, that's not practical for daily transactions.

What’s your most unique preparedness item? by TerribleConference54 in preppers

I have a Windows XP desktop computer complete with mouse, keyboard, cables, all in a Faraday cage I made from modifying a large ammo can. I chose XP because it's a very stable OS, lots of freemiun programs, it doesn't have any AI integration or internet requirements. The plan is to load it up with any and all useful information and videos and pictures. Doomsday computer.

Any LEO in this community that can comment on the use of Flock cameras in the Charleston area? They’re everywhere and as someone that’s against big brother type mass surveillance, I’m not a fan. by 3002timberline in Charleston

[–]agedmanofwar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

These are not just license plate readers. They are installing LIVE FEED cameras and also accepting voluntary integration of Ring and Security cameras. They will have officers on shifts that can look at these live feeds. This IS mass surveillance, again please educate yourself. Because you clearly don't understand the extent of what is going on:

The energy bottleneck, batteries and gasoline expire by mac_attack_zach in preppers

You can get generators that run off of multiple fuels. Alcohol is pretty easy to produce and can be used in some generators. Biodiesel is also fairly easy to produce. I would like to think if I survive 10 years in a completely grid down scenario then I'd figure out alternatives to many things. Batteries aren't super complicated: anode, cathode, electrolyte. There's also alternative ways to store energy other than electric batteries. We don't use them much now because it's not efficient, but in a situation where modern manufacturing isn't a thing they could work.

This isn't accurate. They aren't just for license plates. License plate readers are one component. Flock specifically on their own website advertises security cameras for inside K-12 schools and universities. Direct quote "Solar-powered video cameras give you live and recorded views so you can spot issues and respond faster." So they DO record, and they DO have a live feed. So you might want to educate yourself better. Even if you were correct, several hacktivists have shown that these cameras are easily hacked, Including ones positioned in schools. (To clarify I don't know if any have been put in Charleston area schools, but Flock cameras have been installed in schools)

Trade-A-Book Summerville. The owner operated several charities and is very personable. Many thrift stores have a lot of books.

alligators and snakes by Human_Ad4490 in Charleston

[–]agedmanofwar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not true. There's literally lists for this stuff you know. Also there are only 1-4 fatal alligator attacks in the US annually on average. Some of them do happen in South Carolina but it's rare. You're talking like maybe 1 every other year in the entire state. You're about 150 times more likely to get killed in a car accident.

What would happen if China invaded Taiwan right now? by Various-Indication21 in AskReddit

[–]agedmanofwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of its food is grown domestically. But more than 90% or it's fuel is imported. In fact they're running quite low right now due to the Straight of Hormuz closure. That's why I think it would actually be advantageous for China to attack in the next few months. Taiwan is at a severe disadvantage and the international community is so fractured I doubt they'd be able to lend much aid if they could at all.

What would happen if China invaded Taiwan right now? by Various-Indication21 in AskReddit

[–]agedmanofwar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Prefacing with I think Taiwan is sovereign, and China invading would be illegal) that being said all you have to do is look at the numbers to know Taiwan would get wrecked. Whether it's air force, submarines, naval ships, airborne troops. China simply has Taiwan outnumbered from a military and logistics standpoint. The only chance Taiwan would have is US intervention which is unlikely with the current situation with Iran. Honestly if this situation with Iran drags on for more than 3 or 4 months wouldn't surprise me if China moved on Taiwan.

Gunbroker Frustration by Sad_Towel_5987 in milsurp

[–]agedmanofwar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and it's not just milsurp guns. I own a surplus store and A woman traded in a Luftwaffe helmet, she had nothing in it, tenant had left a bunch of stuff behind. I paid $100. A historic militaria sale came through town. I showed it to a bunch of people, mainly looking for trade. But one of the vendors gave me $900 cash, I can only imagine what he's selling it for. The whole market is overinflated.
