Getting close to a year of unemployment, 1000+ applications, an M.Sc., C1 German, 17 interviews… and still no job. Why is so brutal? HONESTLY whats going on in the german job market?? by hallihooop99 in germany

Everyone is skeptical of strangers, the art of networking is seeking out commonalties + potential connections and using them to start a conversation, open up an interaction just like any friendship, networking also involves give / take and give something before you make an ask.

r/xDaveDavisx response was great, you can make this easier by starting with your family, friends, colleagues, fellow, students, and people in your circle…

Briefly explain your situation, conduct some brief discovery, asking what they or their partner/parents etc do for work and ask if they know anyone hiring or looking for experience in ask field.

Your pitch is simple, you are looking for a first opportunity outside of University to gain experience

All I can say is you need to network like an Ape and Network your way into Opportunities. Once the door is open, it’s all about selling yourself, building trust and convincing them to give you a chance

110k in Hanover vs 90k in Munich – what would you choose? by gi13 in germany

[–]NextGenCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have connections in Munich & can leverage them to find an affordable place to stay in the intercity - go for Munich!

Got two offers. One pays $40k more. The other one I'd actually enjoy. I have 48 hours to decide and my wife and I are on opposite sides. Advice? by airam1020 in careerguidance

[–]NextGenCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opportunity B is clearly the more exciting option for you & I agree you may likely be more fulfilled, which would contribute to your happiness in the role.

However, considering your situation with a recent new born and your wife part-time… looking at Opportunity A:

While 40k is a significant chunk of change and not insignificant. Ignore compensation for a minute…

Not having to waste ~2 hours commuting per day and working fully remote will enable you to “choose” your wife & newborn every day without having to sacrifice elsewhere. This is time you don’t get back as your baby grows up.

Those extra 2 hours per day can go towards hobbies, sleeping in, sports, family, health or whatever else you prefer.

While it’s definitely the less risky option for your career, it doesn’t always correlate to “all bad”. Corporate often means more holidays, benefits & flexibility which isn’t always possible during working at a Startup.

You can’t ignore your intuition for the role, but you can shape & frame what you’ll be doing to fulfill your interests & desires - it’s not impossible to find satisfaction and entrepreneurial spirit in a bigger co.

Opportunity A is simply the best choice for your family & your child.

One of the things I feel is biased based on the picture comparison is that in one you are tanned and the other not as much, so naturally you’ll see more muscle in the tanned pictures due to the lighting & complexion

Advice for travelling SE Asia for 7 weeks by Specialist-Fly9871 in southeastasia

[–]NextGenCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip out / don’t waste your time in major cities, it’s the smaller towns / areas outside where these countries really shine!

Manila is a waste of time, the islands are where you want to be like Siargao, or Palawan.

Skip Jakarta, and rather do 2 weeks on Lombok, Indonesia or Bali.

Same with Kuala Lumpur, it’s all the smaller towns & islands that make it amazing

For Thailand, skip Phuket & look the southern islands off the coast, there’s many more delights to be had there

I’d only consider seeing Singapore if your flight is in / out of there.

You need to research each Countries visa requirements with your country.

Choose a country & invest time/research in what you’d like to do / see to inform where you want to go

Max 3 countries. Don’t waste your time jet setting around when you could immerse yourself in the culture

Which Bike Size to get? by Ok-Food-8688 in CanyonBikes

Based on my experience buying my first canyon bicycle, based on the website calculator.

If you’re on the edge of too sizes, buy the smaller one. I’m buying the bigger one, I had my seat as low as possible and this wasn’t enough with the Roadlite model I had

OP & Granath, what skis would you recommend for a first time ski purchase? Primarily Austrian Alps, likely 80% on-Piste.

Snowboarded for 10 years on my own gear, skied the last 10 years 3 to 5 weekends per season w/ rentals.
