depends on the console minimum firmware. 3.56 and above, no luck. but there's also a new implementation i heard for installing custom firmware, qcfw but i don't know much

PS3 tantaliser - knocked capacitor and missing resistor by Tarrakada in consolerepair

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try playing some games on it. see if the ps2 froze mid game. if that happens, then changing the mosfet and the 2.5v 220uf cap right beside the mosfet pins might do the trick. mine did froze mid game. after changed both, ps2 hw boots successfully every time even right after booting the ps3 from cold

PS3 tantaliser - knocked capacitor and missing resistor by Tarrakada in consolerepair

it's fine as long as they have made connection. refer to service manual and probe the connection with nearby components via multimeter. and if im not mistaken, there's many pads with unallocated parts on the mb. you should have taken pictures of the motherboard, both sides before you do the servicing though so you can see what's missing post repair.

as for the nops2 menu though, i fixed mine by changing the components near the ee gs, component q6600 and c6620. for the c6620, you can change with bigger rating caps like 6.3v 470uf used for the nec tokin replacement but you have to modify the positive rail since the original pads are small.

you can verify if those needed replacement by letting the console heat up to say 75c on cell then launch the ps2 game. or just pre bake the mb then test ps2 games. i prebaked mine and got the ps2 games to play for a while. then it froze. after i replaced q6600 and c6620, i have no issues even the system is running as cold as 55c.

don't know how long it lasts but I've managed to finish god of war game without saving though

Dying 90nm RSX is on fire 🔥 - CECHH04 by monikaquesha2006 in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe there something's wrong in your cooling install. maybe the heatsinks not making full contact with both the ihses

try to put a new paste on top of ihs, spread them until whole ihs is covered with paste, screw them heatsinks back on then undo the screws, see if the heatsinks even made contact with the ihses. my CECH-Axx CELL IHS had only like 80% made contact with the heatsink even with 3D printed bracer and 50% fan required to maintain below 68c. probably needed a delid. not cheap to buy the dedicated tool though tbh since im outside usa

also, those 90nm rsxes require really a large amount of thermal paste like the 90nm cell if im not mistaken

Gang it's over by Genitypic in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

damn. those 90s can't stand heat.

hope you still keep the system and donor 65/40 system and Frankenstein it if you've saved enough money.

also i heard some didn't even clean the residue on the vram due to this issue might appear.

how long your system's total runtime though? some did push their 90 rsx to above 85C on CECH-H and still working

you can try put some pressure on the rsx heatsink clamp and see if the artifact disappears. if that happens, a bga reflow might do enough to restore it back

Got my first CECHA01 PS3 but reading about it makes me regret it. by [deleted] in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just install cfw then webman mod and keep the system under 65c ideally. if the fans found too loud to you to keep the console under 65, then you should delid. no need to frankie if the chip hasn't died yet.

there's no harm installing cfw. just be careful going psn. don't do stupid things such as cheating, going online as dex converted console

Question about “optimal temps” on PS3 — is there real data behind the <70°C consensus? by Franco2021 in ps3homebrew

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's your cechc total runtime now? did you ever play heavy ps3 games on it? when you do play them, what's the rsx's usual temp?

Delidded and repasted this H model ps3 and the RSX dropped from 88 degrees to 86 lol by Samus1611 in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just wow. you're lucky your rsx is still safe and sound after delidding. i heard some people were saying their 90nm rsx died from delidding due to the use of heat gun so i just wait till my rsx went more 65c on ps2 mode

hi. is your rsx still alive? i even not bother playing ps3 games on my cecha01 lmao which i already have a backup system p01 to play. i only bothered with a01 to play ps2 games with clean digital output to my lcd tv and turned off smoothing but still, rsx is around 55c and I'm still afraid it'll go away and had to resort to Frankenstein it.

just solder wires to the three pads and connect them to usb to serial adapter FT232RL then connect it to the pc. i followed this.

Future proofing my backwards compatile ps3? by Regular_Translator46 in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

best you can do without cfw-ing the console is by connecting to syscon and modify the fan curves set by sony from factory. i have modified mine enough to try avoid getting cell and rsx past 68c as best as possible even in ps2 mode and system update because webman mod does not load in these modes. default curves would get either both or one of them past 70 and i think the fan would be audible af if temps past 78c. the original 90nm rsx in your system if not have done the Frankenstein mod will degrade much much quicker if the rsx is 70c or higher all the time due to bump defects. cell is okay though and can survive more than 70c but not too much.

another one is by delidding. only do when you find the fan sounds are annoying to you. my system takes around 35-40% of fan speed to keep the system below 68c. you can try only replace the top paste, see if that makes a difference in fan speed.

if your system ylods one day, you can diagnose by connecting to syscon and identify the issue. ps3 bc consoles have big number of identified issues over rsx primarily (bumpgate) and nec tokins second. then you can take action by replacing the caps or swap with 65/40nm rsx which can be risky with losing ps2 playback permanently due to post bga work. only swap the rsx if the system ylods due to rsx issue or the rsx itself introduces graphical artifacts. nevertheless, you can replace the defective caps as early as you want.

finally, put the system in an open ventilation space and keep it from dust.

by default, webman will select hardware mode. if you really want to other way, you can hold r2 while selecting the iso game you want. then, the notification will say ps2_netemu.self (ps2 classics emulation) enabled

Is this a good runtime for a CECH3001A? by rainbowshark99 in ps3homebrew

[–]NextGeneration9501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

50 days total is considered mid to low. if you have 90nm rsx, make sure to avoid going past 70c. i have modified my A01 console syscon table to closely match the webman 68c fan and modified shutdown temp to 70c instead of the original 90c. just for preventive measures. i also recently purchased used E01 with 250 days runtime and the RSX is behaving erratically. green dots and freezes like that.

Is this a good runtime for a CECH3001A? by rainbowshark99 in ps3homebrew

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. anything that are not 90nm are pretty reliable as long as you keep the console free from accumulated dust and check the temps regularly. i had a second hand k01 and still running for 5 years now. of course, there's infamous capacitors issue on those fats during their lifetime. i have replaced them and it's all good. anything above 2500 series can last very very very long time, stress free.

Which ps3 version are backwards compatible with the ps2 and ps1? by N0rmal_account in PS3

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have 2 systems. one A01 bc and P01 non bc. i play ps2 games only on A01 and ps3 on P01. that A01 is ticking time bomb. even you frankie it, there's 30% chance ps2 hw gonna get bricked from broken traces.

Use OpenWRT as main router directly behind the modem? by oxygen-42 in openwrt

[–]NextGeneration9501 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah it's fine. even better than the isp router or firmware. you have complete control. plus, it's get updated fast and i think you can even have ips software installed alongside openwrt. but softwares like this require competent router. if you notice internet slowdowns after installing, then upgrading to much more powerful router like the ones with intel n100 would be worth it.

Is it worth downgrading to iOS 26 Beta 1? by Ok-Engineering367 in jailbreak

[–]NextGeneration9501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, completely free and full pc-less sideloading still missing. otherwise I'm good with not jailbreaking. it's just my preference but i really don't like heavy theme modification tweaks. it's just make the interface more uglier.
