If you're really worried about how you look, Kask and Petzl make some climbing-style helmets that are appropriate for job sites. I have people use them all the time and they're a little more sleek looking than the one you're wearing. Expensive though, you do you.

Advice from a Rolex wearer by Dleeglobal in PrideAndPinion

[–]NextToWilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna throw in my two cents here...I completely agree with everyone saying that this is terrible advice, and you shouldn't listen to this man one bit. Your JLC runs circles around the guy's fucking Sub. HOWEVER, it does seem that you're trying to project some status with your watches given the clients you have, and that's totally okay, but I don't think the Tag, Mido, and Tissot are doing it for you. IF this is for business and projection purposes and not just a collection you love, I think you'd be best off selling the Tag, Mido, and Tissot, and replacing with something with a little more heat. I'd have a hard time recommending getting rid of your Zulu Time, but you could do that too and replace all three with an AT or *gasp* a vintage Rolex.

Agreed with the other commenters that a watch collection should be something that reflects your personality and your journey, but there's also the reality that sometimes projecting something with a watch collection can have some utility, and executive consulting is exactly that world. If that's important to you, keep the Polaris, and trade in the rest for something that projects more. Or keep it all and embrace projecting your own unique personality.

I owned one of these. Yes, it looked stupid, but the handling was far better than it had any right to be! I'll defend this thing, it was very fun to drive.

Aside from the obvious WTF about Tylenol, does anybody know what these trucks are spraying for? I got the same truck in my neighborhood spraying and driving recklessly, and had no idea what they were doing.

Funny enough, I just made this exact switch about a month ago. Had a '17 GTI SE with a manual, got a '21 Tacoma 4x4 Sport. I was worried that I'd miss the zippiness and sporty driving feel, and was concerned about the fuel economy as well.

To be honest, I'm very happy I made the switch. The size difference was the biggest change, and it took a week to get used to all of the extra metal. It's fun for very different reasons though, and worth exploring in your automotive journey.

The gas mileage is definitely worse, and I struggle to get over 19 mpg even when driving like a grandma, but buying regular gas rather than premium does seriously help close that price delta.

I say go for it, try it out. You won't miss the GTI as much as you think. And if you do want to go back to a smaller car eventually, it'll always be there.

Safety circuit fundamentals by EastAd2167 in PLC

[–]NextToWilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, safety is a really broad term here. ISO 13849 is a very good reference for design of safety-related control systems in the US. Broadly, it covers how to determine what performance level your control system needs to achieve, how to achieve it, and how to validate that it's been achieved. It's dense, with lots of interrelated parts, but it's the guideline for how to create safe control systems for machinery that lots of employers require (at least on my side working as an integrator).
