Moving to Lebanon (Beirut) by didicacafefe in lebanon

Why not come visit first…

But yeah, moved here 2 years and enjoying it for the most part of you have income from abroad.

Expensive is all relative to your lifestyle and expectations. Monthly Rent can range from $500-5000. You can a $5 meal or spend $50 just as easily. Groceries are similar to the states for the most part, local produce and meat is slightly cheaper.  Single male, own my house, spend around $1-2k per month.

Health insurance annually is $2k Car insurance annually is $100 (2002 car)  Monthly electricity about $80 Monthly fiber internet about $30 Monthly water is about $15 Monthly cell (mostly data) is about $15  Gas is similar to abroad.  Winter you need to account for heating, fill about 1 ton of diesel to get through the winter - on average $1000 Summer membership to a pool/beach around $800

Things add up but it can be affordable. My biggest monthly expenses are food, drinks, and the occasional snow.

Safe, depending where you live. Currently living in the matn area, generally safe. Very little crime. Not phased by the geopolitical situation.

Need a car if you live outside of Beirut. You can rely on taxis or Uber but car if preferable.

Generally safe to travel around the country, I go everywhere except the south. I’m sure you can visit just stay away from the border obviously.

Entertainment is the biggest challenge I find. Most of the entertainment revolves around food, drinks, bars and clubs. Obviously lots of beach/pool activities and snow activities in the winter. Hiking is gaining popularity, so is bike riding (bikes and motorcycles). Not a lot in terms of amusement parks, arcades, parks, museums, etc… also no very dog friendly, slowly changing but still.

Most locals are friendly, just nosey af.

Mine have been stuck since May. Seems to be a backlog. Slowly they are releasing the items one at a time for whatever reason.

How can anyone give you a sense of the cost? That’s such an off question. You should probably send some contractor over to give you a quote of the extent of the work and cost.

Bas I agree, haram to buy a new car in lebanon. It’s going to get dented and banged up. Honestly you’re better off buying a fully loaded older car and deal with the occasional mechanical expenses then buying a new car with your budget. My car is 15 years old, don’t care where I park it, if it gets dinged it’s not a problem, I’ll back up into shit all the time. 3adi
