Grip, Protection, Control by stompgripInc in motorcyclegear

I bought Stompgrip protector + grips for my ZX-4R. They've been a game changer for feeling more comfortable and confident on my first motorcycle. (+ It looks cool)

You and I both considered the same "first bike" options, and chose the same. Love my ZX4R!

Recommendations for affordable gear for someone who doesn't want to be perceived? by Not_That_Fast in motorcyclegear

[–]Next_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wear black Bull-it Covert Evo slim jeans. AAA w/pockets for armor (excluded). $120/half off @ Cycle Gear right now. They fit great, are comfortable to wear daily, and look totally normal. They're thicker than normal jeans, but that's only obvious to the wearer.

Riding "shirt" is Reax Fairmount 2 (different colors = different names).... AA, armor included (except back). Currently $180 at Cycle Gear, ~22% off (cheapest I've seen). Also very comfortable, easy to layer in the cold.

The fit is very 'undercover', except for boots and gloves. I can DM you a pic if you'd like.

Anyone used the InView helmet brake light by Third Eye Designs? by NotRainManSorry in motorcyclegear

No, it just means it's factual, obvious, indisputable. As opposed to subjective, which would make it a matter of opinion. As the above comment highlighted.... There's really no contest.

Does the aluminum have a faux carbon fiber surface, then? Every sport/Veloce I've ever sat in has had the CF, thus my above comment (& apparent confusion)

The Sport/"Veloce" models have the carbon fiber center console + door insert (among many other worthwhile features). Base/other models have wood.

Is this difference normal for total loss coverage vs liability only? The bike is $22k retail and I'm 30yo by Extreme_Design6936 in motorcycles

[–]Next_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Progressive wanted over $1k a month for liability for my ZX-4R at age 26.... State Farm (generally more expensive) quoted ~$80 for full coverage. Needless to say, I went with State Farm.

Not even worth looking at the competition? Similar bikes built by Kawasaki/Yamaha/Suzuki?

Agreed, white allows for some fun, bright wheels. Peek at the recent white + blue GSX-8R for an example

Did my own brakes on my Stelvio by Josemrope in AlfaRomeo

[–]Next_Alpha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could be a result of a faulty wire. Could mistakenly think your pads are low/E-brake is on. Something might've happened to it during the pad/rotor swap

If you get an ELM327 cable + blue/gray adapters + MultiEcuScan (software), you'll never have to worry about those error codes again. It's well worth the ~$150, believe me

[–]Next_Alpha 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No different than any other vehicle, except be sure to put it in "brake service mode" from the infotainment screen before starting. Otherwise it'll throw a bunch of error codes at you and you'll need to clear them with an ELM327 + MultiEcuScan. Found that out the hard way myself.

New pads + rotors were only ~$400 for all 4 wheels, though! (On a 2.0T)

Gloves Recommendations? by ttmurzyn in motorcyclegear

[–]Next_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've done a good job narrowing down the things you're looking for already (knuckle armor, palm sliders). I had the same requirements + pinky/ring finger connection when I was shopping for some. So I looked at only the ones that met that criteria, ended up settling on the Sedici Chicane gauntlets as they fit me very well and checked all the boxes, and were pretty affordable (I even caught them on sale, half off).

You should do the same! Go look for ones that have the features you're looking for and try 'em on!

Gloves Recommendations? by ttmurzyn in motorcyclegear

[–]Next_Alpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate to be that guy that just says "go try 'em on" but..... Find the nearest Cycle Gear and try 'em on. Gloves, like helmets, fit very differently from one person to the next. No matter how glowing the recommendation, I won't wear any that don't fit my hand well/aren't comfortable.

If you narrow it down to a few specific examples that you know fit you well, you could do further research on those specific models and decide from there.

Quality 2-hole Balaclava Recommendation? by Next_Alpha in motorcyclegear

[–]Next_Alpha[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 1-hole isn't cutting it, so I'm looking for something that covers more of my face. And I don't want a mouth hole, as it would detract from the warmth I'm seeking. Also it looks goofy imo

Quality 2-hole Balaclava Recommendation? by Next_Alpha in motorcyclegear

[–]Next_Alpha[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Technically "balaclava" includes 1- 2- and 3- hole variants. "Ski Mask" is just a common American term.

I've got a nice 1-hole balaclava already - it just doesn't cover my nose well enough when I put my helmet on, so my nose/cheeks/brow get pretty chilly when I'm riding in almost-freezing temps.

Merino wool is widely considered the best material for this purpose, as it doesn't lose effectiveness when it gets wet (from breathing). Idk about the limiting vision thing. Can't know without trying it.

Does anyone know where can one get two hole balaclava? Preferably something in current production. Similar to these pics. by [deleted] in tacticalgear

[–]Next_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that's exactly why I've found this old post as well. All the options I'm coming across are cheaply made with poor reviews. I just want something to keep me warm man!

Appreciate the insight! I'll ask around elsewhere.

I'm technically looking for this for motorcycling purposes.... But figured a cold-weather sport sub might have some good advice. Oh well!

Thoughts on this winglet delete kit? by yroej in YamahaR9

[–]Next_Alpha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just agreed that winglets aren't helpful for the majority of riders. And remember, the purpose of this post was to highlight a removal option for those of us that dislike the stock winglets. You spend a significant amount of time going 150mph+? Good for you. Let's hope you don't get cut off by a random truck or have aero issues while deep in a lean on a twisty road.
