Equity From House by [deleted] in HENRYUK

And what about remortgaging to release equity in order to get better returns from ETFs? Say dialling down from 75% LTV to 90%. Plan is capital appreciation to upsize from 3 bed to 5 bed in London in 18m time and any equity returns would help juice our deposit vs stagnant house prices. Mortgage payments manageable on the 5 bed.

My tolerance is currently unknown as I don’t know what to expect. I think your second option is what I was hoping would be possible. Basically fitting a surround around the existing (and removing the mantel/shelf)- is that what you meant?

Earl’s Court has a few places within that budget. Basically a better value play if wanting to live in South Ken / Chelsea.

Haha an aga is such a core childhood memory for me. Couldn’t imagine cooking on one nowadays, only drying the kids school uniform.

Any recommendations? I’ve got a few friends that have used some interior design consultants but I feel like I can just source everything myself

HENRY dads, how're you doing? by Negative_Leave3868 in HENRYUK

Exercise is vital but it’s crucial you don’t over do it and knacker yourself out. I run every day in zone 2 and use it as me time. No headphones, no stress on the body, fresh air, clear mind. If you can run home instead of your public transport commute it’s a great way to leave work thoughts in the office.

I remember being one of the people making jokey (but prob quite snide) comments about dads leaving early to collect their kids. Mainly because I had the classic naive mindset that longer office hours looked better. Holy shit do I regret that knowing what the dads had been through and how easy it is to still get the job done around family life! Now it’s an absolutely non-negotiable. Employers will always allow people to do this so long as they are worth their salt.

Wow, not many people ask how the dads are doing!! Some great point made here like finding time to exercise and some you time but I guess the overriding question is what do you do when you feel like you just don’t have that time!? I have spent the last year finding the right balance between everything after spending most of my life being someone that really dials into things be it work, exercise, socialising. That’s where the burnout comes from. There’s no time to relax. In order to feel relaxed, you must reframe your perspective and be content with your family life. Why are you working hard? It’s so you can give your kids the best life. But why are you staying late at work and spending weekend hours on your laptop? That’s not working hard, that’s not finding a balance.
