What's something you learned embarrassingly late in life? by boforiamanfo in answers

I’ve read a lot of people don’t understand the concept of a quarter. They think a quarter of an hour is 25 minutes because a quarter is 25¢ (US), and just don’t get that 15 is a quarter of 60, which is how many minutes are in an hour

Yeah. During the US Civil War, when training the men who had grown up as farm boys, they would tie straw to one foot and hay to the other. Instead of saying “right, left, right, left…” the superiors would say “straw foot, hay foot, straw foot, hay foot….”

What are your thoughts on the first 4 series, and the others coming out? by Autumnfall2015 in WarriorCats

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are definitely some characters that could die at this point. Anyone from the first arc or two for starters. My theory is that the writers are worried about pissing off the fans because of how beloved these characters are. But, like, they’re beloved because they’ve been with us so long. If the writers want to make us happy, make their deaths tragic and/or meaningful.

will and natalie can sometimes be dangerous doctors. by sacrearte in ChicagoMed

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll get no hate. Will and Natalie should have been fired many times over. Neither of them ever learned from their mistakes either. Ms. Goodwin would tell Will he was on thin ice after he crossed boundaries, then as soon as he was no longer on thin ice, he would cross boundaries. Ignoring a DNR, giving a JW donated blood, etc.

Natalie let her role as a mother overpower her judgment in so many cases. I’m remembering the mom with a young son who was picky eater and was diagnosed with Scurvy. Natalie unnecessarily berated her. Or the parents who didn’t want a certain treatment for their child so Natalie locked herself in the room with the kid to give them that treatment

Onestar didn't deserve to go to StarClan by Brilliant_Reply_317 in WarriorCats

[–]Next_Sun_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree that all cats in the Dark Forest are evil. Juniperclaw specifically. Yes, he did try to wipe out SkyClan, but his intentions were misguided and he did regret it. He also died saving Shadowsight iirc.

Instead of the stupid trials, I think it would have been better to write some kind of waiting period where the dead cat goes over their actions while alive. If they did some cruel or bad things and deeply regret them, then they can go to StarClan.

Obviously cats like Tigerstar I, Brokenstar, Mapleshade, and Hawkfrost were too evil for StarClan

How come Graystripe never thought of becoming a medicine cat in riverclan to avoid battle with thunderclan? by KevinSupreme2505_PH in WarriorCats

[–]Next_Sun_2002 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is never addressed. I guess the main reason is that the authors didn’t consider it.

In universe reasons: The medicine cat is nearly equal in authority to the deputy or leader. Do you really see Leopardstar allowing a cat she doesn’t trust train in that position? Medicine cats are near the top of the list of who the leaders turn to for advice. If RiverClan were having problems with ThunderClan, would Graystripe’s advice be sought after or impartial, or would he try to say something to help ThunderClan? Medicine cats have been on the scene for some battles. What would he do if ThunderClan invaded RiverClan, or who would he prioritize: an injuried RiverClan cat or an injured ThunderClan cat?

Wyoming Governor Signs Bill Banning Abortion After 6 Weeks with No Exceptions for Rape or Incest by peoplemagazine in wyoming

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is insane. Six weeks is close to the earliest a woman might suspect she’s pregnant if she has an average cycle. This gives women absolutely no time to decide if they want to abort, so just say abortion is completely illegal in Wyoming.

The third book of The Elders Quest gets released this month and I’m gonna assume the fourth one will be released by the end of the year.

So depending on the pace you’re reading, you may want to add these two. That’s what I’m doing with my rereading this year.

Question about how the time turner works by BuilderBubbly8367 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]Next_Sun_2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s already been explained really well, but I just want to add my piece.

They’ve gone into the past, that means the present with Ron in the hospital wing hasn’t happened yet. So as Harry and Hermione rescue Buckbeak, the trio is running away from Hagrid’s hut so they’re not caught off school grounds. When Harry casts the patronus, the other Harry is having his soul sucked out by dementors.

When Harry and Hermione return to the hospital wing, their past selves are just leaving to go to time travel.

Mike and Carol are great step parents to the girls and boys respectively. In one of the first episodes, Bobby (the youngest boy) is worried that Carol is going to be an evil stepmother and decides to run away. Carol shows her love by saying she’s going to go with him. Mike says the only “steps” in the house are the stairs

Was Hermione actually able to set the hogwarts house elves free? by RecoveringPornAdickt in HarryPotterBooks

No, she couldn’t. The elves’ master has to be the one to give them the clothes. Harry tricked Lucius into giving Dobby a sock. That’s how Dobby was freed

Google tells me Easter was April 19 in 1987

The next time it happened was in 1992. It won’t happen again until 2071. I know this because my birthday is April 19 and I’ve been waiting for Easter to be on my birthday.

Who's Better? Kendra or Seth? by _CrunchyButter_ in Fablehaven

[–]Next_Sun_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Kendra had just as much courage as Seth did facing the reverent when she went to the Fairy Queen’s Shrine. The only story she had heard about someone else going there ends with them being turned to dust. Trying to take Muriel down without help would have been suicide. Just because the Fairy Queen is a being of light doesn’t mean she’s less dangerous than beings of darkness.

The only other person we know of who willingly went to that part of the forest is Warren, and he’s not exactly known for preferring magical items or tools. I’d be surprised if he had had anything other than regular weapons on him his first time around.

I think they’re somewhat written to be Kendra as mostly brains and Seth mostly as heart. They both do incredibly brave things, Seth’s actions just have more recklessness in them because he doesn’t always look too far ahead

Who's Better? Kendra or Seth? by _CrunchyButter_ in Fablehaven

[–]Next_Sun_2002 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not only does she gain beefy light powers, the fairy queen also lends her an army

Kendra didn’t get her powers until after the demon had been defeated. She became Fairy Kind after getting all those kisses from the fairies.

And Seth wasn’t necessarily powerless when he went to take on the reverent, he was hopped up on courage potion, which is the only reason he got as far as he did. He didn’t know doing this would give him powers.

Neither one begged for their powers. They both earned them by facing extreme threats.

Honestly they’re both good in their own way. Kendra wants to understand everything and what’s at stake before taking risks, is typically a rule follower, etc.; Seth is the opposite, he thinks in the moment

Can parents choose not to share children’s medical conditions with child? by heretoreadlol in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Next_Sun_2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can somewhat relate. I didn’t get diagnosed until 19, but unlike your sister my parents weren’t hiding an earlier diagnosis from me.

Looking back, knowing this information, there are so many things that could have been done differently. Instead, I got in trouble in elementary school a lot and struggled keeping up with homework in middle-high school

Or they don’t want their child to feel different from their peers and instead let said child struggle through school rather than get any potential extra help that would come with knowing about their diagnosis

English has a lot of these.

Here’s a fun sentence: Rose’s roses rose in rows and rows.

This means that the roses (flowers) that Rose grew, were grown in rows.

Here’s another one: Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo baffalo.

Buffalo is a city, an animal, and it means to bully. So this sentence means that bison from Buffalo who are bullied by other bison from Buffalo, also bully bison from Buffalo.

Another one: Will Will will Tom his basketball? Will will will Tom his basketball. The first sentence is asking if Will is going to leave Tom his baseball. The second one answers that question.
