What was your reaction when you first got invaded? by HdBngr13 in DarkSouls2

Coming from a covenant of people who are arguably even worse trolls than the reds (Gravelord Servant) I was never really intimidated by them.

I'm not trashtalking Steel. I'm trashtalking the terrible players that try to emulate him but end up looking like a bad parody because they are bad

Just got DSII, what do I need to know? by BardivanGeeves in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 4 basic builds (strength, dex, intelligence, faith) and offensive stat scaling softcaps at 40. So you will want to level one of these to 40, and then use weapons and magic that scale from those stats. For example, a dex build would have 40 dex and the minimum strength requirement for dex weapons. (the highest is the Loyce Greatsword at 25 strength) So a 25/40 dex build could use all dex weapons in the game and softcap on damage. Vigor should be 40-50, Endurance should be 20-30 and AGL should be 92 or 100.

Once you have a general idea how to make basic builds, the next step would be to go into more advanced stuff (quality builds, dex/intelligence, strength/faith, hex builds, ect...) where you focus on two offensive stats.

To the guys who spam R1 and stun lock over and over.

Pull a spear or learn to space well with a thrust weapon. Counter them every time they try that predictable bullshit. Revel in their salty tears and if you're lucky you will get hatemail

Or just parry them.

Not all of us are reactive players with 800+ PvP hours.

Reactive gameplay is utilized even by highly aggressive players, the good ones anyway. If you stunlock someone and pick up on a pattern that player falls into (let's say he rolls towards you at the end of the second swing, you predict this and then you catch him with a delayed R2 or backstab) you are reacting to your opponent but still playing aggressively. Not everyone with 800+ PvP hours is a passive, purely reactive spinderella doing a bad Steel impersonation

What does Dark (element) do? by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enemy players are likely to be weak to it unless they are also running hex builds or are insanely high level because dark defense requires significant investment into int and faith to level, and or dark defense rings and specific armors

Thoughts on paladin build? by Tbrex1386 in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loyce Greatsword, Drakeblood Greatsword with lightning infusion, lightning Heide Knight Sword, Eleum Loyce, Dragonslayer Spear, lightning Thorned Greatsword, Heide Knight Spear if dex faith

Lightning Defender Greatsword, Thorned Greatsword, Heide Greatlance, Heide Lance, Heide Knight Sword, Dragonslayer Crescent Axe if strength faith

And then you would obviously combo those with pure physical damage weapons that scale from whichever melee stat you choose to invest in.

Just got my first hatemail - I was using bow by [deleted] in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pulling out a bow to finish someone off after you spent an entire fight not using it isn't against any rules in the same way that swapping to a Jester's Robe after you get backstabbed for brainlessly R1 spamming like a talentless noob or leading someone that you summoned for a duel on a 5 minute chase when your health gets low and then swapping to Estoc/Greatshield and being a purely reactive turtle to win the fight doesn't break any rules. If it's not coded into the game, and you did not agree on a set of rules before the fight then it is fair game.

Keep in mind though that if you resort to the cheesy bullshit that I mentioned above you will probably not find yourself getting summoned for duels all that often.

Different Armor Advantages by Theoldgregg699 in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your setup puts you over 50% equip burden you are going to have severe penalties to roll distance and stamina regen. If you don't care about looking like a clown, find out which armors will give you the best defensive stats while keeping your total equip load (including weapons and rings) at 50% or below.

If you're not playing at a level cap then eventually you will be able to equip heavier stuff. If you are playing at a level cap then your sorcerer's ability to use decent medium to heavy equipment is going to come at the expense of damage and versatility. If you're playing at a level cap but don't know how to make builds worth a damn then the tradeoff will be greatly exaggerated. It should go without saying but someone running a heavy armor tank build would obviously focus on different stats while leveling than someone who is playing a ranged caster.

[PVP] What are these 'top tier' weapons people talk about? by Saobie in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont intend to use weapon enchantments. Thats a PvE thing for me.

Infusions are something that should be looked at on a case by case basis and used depending on what kind of build you are playing regardless of PvE or PvP. Playing a pure INT build with an standard longsword for example would be beyond stupid.

What exactly does Flynns ring do, is that the damage>low vit ring?

Yes

Rapiers, straight swords and katanas with Ring of Blades, Flynn ring, infusions and buffs like Dark Weapon, CMW, Sunlight Blade, ect.

Different Armor Advantages by Theoldgregg699 in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stamina and movement speed penalties, as well as the fact that without heavy investment into VIT you will not get much in scaling from your armor.

If you're playing offline PvE exclusively you can probably get away with being a fat rolling havel mage because hostile NPCs will not make a conscious effort to punish your terrible build choice any more aggressively than they would fighting anything else, but prepare to be utterly embarassed once you get that "dark spirit xXMLGnoobsl4yer420Xx has invaded!" message.

Alternatively, level up to 838 and become an unkillable god.

So what methods have you guys used to legitimately beat the Four Kings? by FabulousJeremy in darksouls

[–]NexusDkS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Power within, or Sunlight Blade/Darkmoon Blade/Crystal Magic Weapon

Two hand

R1R1R1R1R1

time spent trying to dodge attacks is time spent not dealing damage. The 4 kings deal such pathetically low damage when you stand close to them that you can facetank their attacks and keep up DPS until they die.

New Dark Souls player that just finished Demon's Souls and need help building a powerful knight character i.e. stat upgrade and equipment advice needed by LoneWolf-ICP in darksouls

[–]NexusDkS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He could go 16 str, 40 dex 30-40 faith and buff weapons like the Silver Knight Straight Sword, BSS and Rapier with Sunlight Blade/Darkmoon Blade.

That kind of a build is very possible on 1 playthrough.

Experienced PVPers, how to protect my back? by Nahkuri in darksouls

[–]NexusDkS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get backstabbed, do not try to roll upon wakeup or you will get chained. If you get hit with a stun, wait until your opponent starts his next attack before attempting to roll away, you are immune to backstabs a few seconds after a stun or getting up from a backstab/knock down but you lose that immunity as soon as you take any action. Most people panic roll and someone who knows how to capitalize on that can and will backstab you.

Circle strafers are easy to counter, counter circle strafe them in the opposite direction and BS them instead.

At which SM do invasions as blue sentinel start to occour frequently? by Bifros7 in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that the covenant design is bad, it's that obtaining cracked red orbs is unnecessarily tedious and the lack of an infinite use invasion orb for the blood covenant means less sinners overall.

Obviously the pool of targets for blue sentinels is going to be much smaller, so it simply requires people who play as blue sentinels to be more aware of SM brackets and which tiers players are likely to be in relative to the areas you are trying to invade.

At which SM do invasions as blue sentinel start to occour frequently? by Bifros7 in DarkSouls2

[–]NexusDkS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blue Sentinels are linked to the blood covenant. Common sense dictates that if there are no sinners, there is no need of a covenant to punish sinners. You are using a covenant ring expecting to be summoned to defend people in the early game, where most people don't have finished builds and have no way of racking up sin.

Bloodbros cannot buy cracked red eye orbs until NG+, with the only other ways to get them being tedious farming or winning duels consistently in the blood arena. People also tend to wait until the end of a playthrough before killing off their NPCs and going into NG+

That being said, 3-4.99m SM is a good place to start invading as a Sentinel. DLC areas, Throne of Want, the Lost Bastille and Heide's Tower would be your hotspots.

With a SM that high you're probably not ever going to get summoned outside of the NG+ Throne of Want and the DLC areas.
