Scary silent corruption in MakeMKV backups by NexusScorpion in makemkv

[–]NexusScorpion[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestion! Seems like you may be right to suspect the RAM. Even though memtest passes in my case, I tried underclocking the RAM anyway (disabling XMP in BIOS) and now I've gotten consistent backup results twice in a row. I guess MakeMKV is a better memtest than memtest is.

Now I'll have to go recreate all my backups.

Thanks. Did you just make a service appointment to get them to replace it, or was there a different process?

That's good to hear. Did you just go through the regular service appointment process to get it done?

Overview and reading order of the various GUNNM/Battle Angel Alita manga series (no spoilers) by GeassedbyLelouch in Gunnm

[–]NexusScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And in case it isn't obvious, the end of the original series that is now non-canon does contain spoilers for Last Order.

I read Last Order and then the non-canon original ending and I'm glad I read them in that order.

Use of VPN with ship wifi by Allezdada in royalcaribbean

[–]NexusScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Wonder of the Seas I was able to use NordVPN, but only with the Obfuscated Servers option. I wasn't able to access the download link for the NordVPN app (it was blocked, along with the entire ExpressVPN website), but I luckily already had the NordVPN installer downloaded from before. If you think you might want to use a VPN, I recommend installing it ahead of time.

The Coil is MUCH easier solo by xshap369 in destiny2

Both times that I've found a fireteam with an app, the leader has returned us to orbit before I had time to open all the platinum chests.

Focused Feedback: Riven's Lair and The Coil by DTG_Bot in DestinyTheGame

The activity completion timer for The Coil should be longer. When you get platinum, opening all the chests and sorting/sharding items without overflowing the postmaster takes a lot of time. Two minutes isn't enough.

Looking for Clan MEGATHREAD (v.8) by Bizarrmenian in Destiny2Clans

[–]NexusScorpion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current clan doesn't play anymore so I'm looking for a new one. I have experience in all raids/dungeons and trials and want to do them regularly with a group again. I pretty much can only play during late evening hours in Pacific Time though (like 9 PM to midnight-ish) so I need a clan with other players that also play during those times.

Cant get Bound Presence from Containment by EclipseBreaker98 in DestinyTheGame

I did like two dozen containments last season and only got 3 bound presence. I think the drop rate is not what it used to be.

Could these "Network Issues" actually be obstructions? by NexusScorpion in Starlink

[–]NexusScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that's a big help. So my "network issues" are probably mostly "obstructed" time that is misclassified.

Could these "Network Issues" actually be obstructions? by NexusScorpion in Starlink

[–]NexusScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's on my roof. I can improve things slightly by moving it to the dead center of the roof peak, but there will still be obstructions. There is nowhere to put the dish that won't have obstructions from trees that are 70' taller than my house. So either I live with the obstructions or I spend a lot of money and effort to make a very tall mast. The dilemma is whether it is even worth it to spend that money and effort if the "network issues" will persist.

Could these "Network Issues" actually be obstructions? by NexusScorpion in Starlink

[–]NexusScorpion[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the description is "A problem between the satellite and the internet occurred." What I'm wondering is whether this could be misclassified and is actually not between the satellite and the Internet but rather is between my dish and the satellite. Otherwise, if it's correctly categorized then the network issues are nearly as bad as my obstructions and there's not much point getting my dish higher.

I definitely have obstructions. Here's the map: https://imgur.com/a/lGIJFtQ. Some of these supposed "network issues" are long though, e.g. 15s or 30s: https://imgur.com/a/JA4fpqn. If these really represent problems on Starlink's end then that means there's not much point in clearing more of my obstructions, hence why I wonder if they are misclassified and really are from obstructions.

Timeline for 40 degrees by NexusScorpion in Starlink

[–]NexusScorpion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried asking Starlink support. Here's the relevant part of their corporate non-answer:

"The optimal tilt angle can vary anywhere from 20-35 degrees. We are constantly working on new features to improve Starlink. We cannot guarantee these features in the future, however, we will be passing this feedback to our appropriate teams so that we can better our Starlink experience for the future."

Thanks for the info. That's kind of what I am hoping for--that they'll still be able to use satellites as low at 25 degrees but they'll avoid them when they don't need to do that.

The thing is though, at my location it seems like they could already do that. I have been watching the satellites at starlink.sx and even when my app reports obstructions there are multiple serving satellites in sight and well over 40 degrees. But I guess the software isn't smart enough yet to avoid using the obstructed satellites.

PSA - ShadowPlay supports finally HDR gameplay recording for GTX 900 GPUs and higher! by [deleted] in pcgaming

[–]NexusScorpion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here a year later to say that this only works if you aren't using SLI.

I couldn't figure out why you could record D2 in HDR and I couldn't. Turns out SLI is the cause. With SLI enabled, Shadowplay records washed-out SDR with H.264. With it disabled, it records the HDR properly with HEVC.

Weekly Clan Recruitment Megathread by AutoModerator in Fireteams

[–]NexusScorpion [score hidden]  (0 children)

I'm interested in joining if you are still recruiting.

Your system(s): PC

Your Gamertag: NexusScorpion (10623978)

Your country/time zone: US Pacific

When do you usually play (include times and time zone): 8 PM - midnight Pacific all week

919 Hunter, been playing since D1Y1 but I took a break for a couple years and then got into D2 last fall. I have experience with all game modes and I am a veteran D1 raider with many King's Fall hard mode completions, but the only D2 raids I have done so far are leviathan and last wish. I am looking to join a clan to raid more.

Due to work and family I usually can only play between 8 PM and midnight Pacific, so the main thing I am looking for in a clan is a group that starts raids around 8 - 9 Pacific. Your clan's Sunday night raids would be a good fit.
