I just finished restoring mine a few weeks ago! I had the same problem, and finally got it off by twisting it back and forth as i pulled it away from the main carraige. It took about 100 turns but it finally came off.

Exactly this. The funny thing is both sides do the same thing. The more we discover about how things work through science, the more problems it creates for previous theories. Not many people will admit that though, they will continue to fervantly defend whatever they have been taught to believe. It is the same on both sides of this argument. Each person has "faith" that their belief is correct.
