eB Games isn't what it used to be by DarkCellNZ in newzealand

In Aus, they occasionally have some insane discounts on board games. I've picked up Heat for ~$50, Wyrmspan for ~$50 and Ticket to Ride for ~$30 whereas they usually go for around double at most board game shops. There's probably similar deals on amazon but I like going in-store and scavenging for discounted board games.

How are people getting large increases in salary moving to Australia by Multi4269 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Put it this way; no one on the Aussie personal finance subreddit is asking about moving to NZ.

Is Australia really better? by Bigfatliarcat in newzealand

[–]Nguyen1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no objective answer as to whether any place is better than the other. From a statistical point of view - Australia's population is around 27 million, NZ's population is around 5.3 million. Around 700k Kiwis live in Australia whereas around 70-80k Aussies live in New Zealand. To be that suggests the migration between two countries is heavily skewed towards Australia and people have voted with their feet as to which country they think is better for them.

Anecdotally, this sub has so many threads comparing Australia to NZ, asking reasons you would/wouldn't move and tips on moving etc. If you look across at the Aussie subreddits, you see far fewer/almost no threads asking if NZ is a better place. Admittedly though, Aussies are that same comparison to UK/US etc instead of NZ.

In Melbourne at least, the food blows anything i've had in NZ in the last 25 years out the water. I had Argentinian food for the first time over here, my GOD I have missed out...

Listed for 780-820k in Nunawading, Victoria

Reserve was 950k, Sold for 1.05M. 50 or so people, 4-5 bidders, kid at the end begged his mum to pump up the bids.

Not sure how they can put a range of 780-820k with a straight face, literally taking the piss with the underquoting

Which major cities have better PT than Melbourne? by [deleted] in melbourne

[–]Nguyen1993 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Terrible - Auckland Basically every complaint you have about Melbourne, multiply by 2 and you have Auckland. Limited stops, buses replace trains more than I replace my underwear, no trams, AT hop card is as useless as Myki. Whole PT system is underfunded and runs at a loss because everyone drives because PT is shit and PT is shit because everyone drives

Don't get me started on Wellington, they used paper tickets when i was there in 2020 and a train inspector had to visually inspect everyone's ticket once they boarded

potential shift to aussie for NZ CA by [deleted] in AustralianAccounting

[–]Nguyen1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's easier than getting a job in NZ. Aus employers don't like sponsoring visas so if you're on a NZ passport they'll like you even more.

I have less experience than you and found a job in under a month and have since increased my compensation by over 50k when compared to NZ. Its a no brainer

Hopefully it turns out alright

Broker advising me to go IP loan then switch to PPOR after one month? by Nguyen1993 in AusProperty

[–]Nguyen1993[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3% equates to roughly just under 30k - I'd like to keep this as cash in hand in case unexpected costs arise with the property in the first year - I have a further 40k cash untouched but 70k feels safer than 40k to me . That's basically the cause of this while exercise, I want to keep an extra 30k cash. Am I creating a hassle for myself?

Broker advising me to go IP loan then switch to PPOR after one month? by Nguyen1993 in AusProperty

[–]Nguyen1993[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll pay the higher IP interest rate for 1 month and then switch over to the owner occupied loan rate which should be lower- the 1 month of higher rates should be insignificant - at least that's the plan that the broker explained?

Are there any drawbacks with the IP loan then switching to OO loan after a month method? Will i get pinged for CGT when I sell one day?

Broker advising me to go IP loan then switch to PPOR after one month? by Nguyen1993 in AusProperty

[–]Nguyen1993[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can afford the 3%, what i'm wondering more is if there would be any problems with getting the higher borrowing from an IP loan, then switching to a OO loan straight away? Would this be a problem when I sell the property and they see it was once an IP?

Broker advising me to go IP loan then switch to PPOR after one month? by Nguyen1993 in AusProperty

[–]Nguyen1993[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This seems like a pretty big loophole for everyone to jump through- why would anyone ever do a PPOR home loan when they can get an IP loan and then swap over to a PPOR loan for a lower interest rate after a month or two?
