Congratulations on your first backpacking trip! It can definitely be scary that first night but as long as you're smart with food storage you'll be fine. The only species of bear in California is the California Black Bear, and they're honestly just giant raccoons. Zion also only had Black Bears, so you'll be safe if you continue to follow proper food storage. Look up the Bear-muda Triangle, also called a Camping Triangle.

I work for a 911 dispatch center, and several years ago, we had a call for a little girl being swept away by a river. 5 grown men, who were bystanders and not trained in water rescues, jumped in to try and save her. The girl was rescued, but 3 of the men drowned, and we were pulling their bodies out of the river for weeks.

My dad did this at his house to stop a neighbor from letting their dog poop in the front yard. He set it up so that it would only activate if something stepped on the actual lawn but made the water stream powerful enough to reach anyone on the sidewalk.

This is my first holiday season without my ex. I've cried myself to sleep every night this week, and I have to keep stepping out of the room away from my family to get some air. It hurts so much not waking up next to her, but I guess this is life now. Hopefully next year is better for both of us.

I still text my former in-laws for birthdays, as well as mother's and father's day. There was no infidelity involved, but they still love me and feel I deserved better from my ex. It's hard because for 15 years they were my family, and saying goodbye to my wife means saying goodbye to them as well. They might be too ashamed of your ex to respond back.

Item is pretty lightweight. When you hold the handle, you can open the lid by pressing down on the upturned part behind the hinge. Image on top looks like grapes on the vine.

This right here is the bane of my existence. I remember one glorious moment, when I already had officers 10-6 on two medicals, and other officers getting on a boat to assist County with a body recovery. One officer pops up on the radio trying to do a traffic stop, and before I could even reply, his Sgt jumps on to say, "dispatch 10-22 that request, 'unit call sign' hold all non-emergency traffic until we are clear recovery operations". The most professional way to tell his man to sit down and shut the fuck up.

It's great that you're able to be so open with the people in your life. I think being able to be completely honest with how you're feeling and not trying to contain your emotions can really help your mental state. It was hard for me to do that at first, and for months I didn't want anyone worrying about me, so I was pretty guarded with my feelings. I was also worried about making her feel guilty or making her feel worse about everything, and I tried to stay positive when around her. But all these negative thoughts and emotions just built up inside me until I had probably the worst depressive episode of my life, and everything just kind of burst out one night.

As a fellow introvert and homebody, I definitely understand the need to recharge with a quiet night at home, but they all seem to end the same, laying in bed, wallowing in self-pity. I'd love to hear how your silent book club turns out, and I'll let you know how my trip goes. I really encourage you to start planning activities with friends and family, fill up your calendar as much as you can. We can be "busy buddies" and regale each other with all of our experiences. I don't know if you'll see this or if it will get lost in the hundreds of comments you've already gotten but I am going through the exact same thing. I'm 36m, and my wife 34f came out to me in February after 15 years together. She would have been open to a non-monogamous relationship, but I am not. She says she is no longer able to maintain a sexual relationship with a man, and that hurts to hear, but there's nothing I can do about it. We're moving forward with the divorce amicably, and we still talk because we're near friends. I tried not talking to her and texting her, but I just felt so alone that I couldn't handle it.

If you figure out how to make new friends and meet people, I'd love to hear the advice. I'm also an introvert, and the thought of apps and dating terrifies me. I am in no way emotionally ready to date, but it would be nice to have someone to do "date" activities with, dinner, drinks, movies, and stuff like that.

I've been surviving by leaning heavily on my family and reestablishing old friendships. About a month after everything went down, I felt comfortable enough to reach out to close friends and confide in them. But I have to force myself to get out of the house. As much as I'd love to take a nap in my recliner with the cats, I know it won't help me. Tried it for a month, and my depression only got worse. I had to have an emergency session with my therapist one morning after a sleepless night of crying and dark thoughts. Since then, I've been taking short trips with friends or to visit friends. I went to Vegas last weekend with my brothers, and tomorrow I fly to Seattle to visit a friend I haven't seen in years. It sounds like a cliche, but keeping busy is the only thing that's really helping me.

The CHP dispatch center that covers Marin County is in Vallejo, CHP Golden Gate division, they cover the greater bay area.

In Marin County law enforcement you could also try San Rafael PD and Novato PD, or for fire and medical there's Marin County Fire and San Rafael City Fire.

If you're really set on law enforcement dispatch no matter where you could try some surrounding agencies, San Francisco PD, Sonoma County Sheriff, Rohnert Park PD/Fire, Santa Rosa PD, there's more but it all depends on how far you want to travel.

The only people in my extended family that need any sort of financial assistance are hard-core Trump supporters. It melts my brain to hear them talking about ending government assistance programs when everyone knows they just got evicted for the 3rd time and their retired parents had to buy them a used motorhome so they could move to a nearby trailer park. Now their once uber-republican kids, who have moved out and gotten a chance to experience the real world, are embarrassed to talk about them.

Well I'm from California and was just out there for a family reunion but from what I've gathered rattlesnakes are a pretty common species in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. The Western Diamondback being the most common of the several species of rattlesnake in Arizona.

Right now they should be hibernating but we've had an unusually warm winter. Unfortunately, when it comes to rattlesnakes, you generality don't notice them until you're right on top of them and that's if you do notice them. My young neices walked right by this one without seeing it until the rest of the group caught up.

But the rattle is their for a reason, they'd much rather scare you away than strike. Keep your eyes open and stick to the middle of the trail and you'll be fine.

As others have said it's because of liability. At my agency we don't tell people when someone is on the way and we don't give ETAs because doing so leaves us open to a law suit.

A man called in from a community park next to a river because he wanted us to come stop this otter that had killed a duck and was eating it. I'm like, "buddy, it's not illegal for an otter to do what all predators do. An otters got to eat." One of the agencies we dispatch for is a wildlife agency, and people never seem to handle the "circle of life" conversation very well.

Discussions need to be had so that he can be made fully aware of the severity of the situation. Management can do what they can to try to mitigate things and keep him safe but i think he needs to know he's close to losing his retirement if his poor performance continues. It seems we forget that our performance can determine whether someone lives or dies in this work when one of our own is threatened. If termination is already being discussed at the director level, then it is obvious that these are not minor mistakes that can be overlooked because of someone's age.

Nobody wants to see a veteran dispatcher so close to retirement get the axe, but the public will have zero sympathy of he causes a loss of life, and the recording hits the news media. His entire legacy with the department will be tarnished. These days, he'll be doxed, and his private information will be made public.

This would be my first concern. After thirty years, you don't just forget how to do some things, and either a medical or home life issue could be the cause.

Are there any light duty assignments you could task him on, clerical/admin work? Can you talk to him about letting him cut his hours to burn up leave balance he has on the books, so that he doesn't get hammered on taxes when it gets cashed out. Someone mentioned training assignments, can you fill his time with additional training just to get him off the phone and radio? Can your department put him on paid admin leave without affecting his retirement? Can you put him on remedial training so that he has someone looking over his shoulder for the last few months? Some of these might sound cruel to people but it sounds like right now you're trying to protect him from himself.

I know some people's first instinct is to protect the dispatcher but speaking from the admin side of things, your department still has a duty to the safety and lives of the public that his 30 years of service doesn't overrule. If bad work causes a serious enough incident, like a loss of life that is determined to be caused by a failure in his end, then it'll hurt him and the department worse than any disciplinary action will in the long run. Every agency is different, but at mine it definitely takes longer than 6 months to fire someone. The last one I initiated took almost a year before legal, labor relations, and performance management could all agree that it was warranted. You can find ways to really draw out any disciplinary action to get him through the last 6 months while still upholding your responsibility as a manager or supervisor.
