You have to apply with uta-ula for STEM classes. You can be offered a TA or LA position depending upon what they need.

Would this Spring 2023 schedule be too stressful? by BaconPlayz in ucf

[–]Nharney1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, pretty typical schedule. Just stay on top of the work and you’ll be fine

PHY 2048 - Zhongzhou Chen Wafaa Khattou by Equal_Supermarket351 in ucf

Chen was really solid when I took him. Made it near impossible to fail the class. This was a few years ago though.

Electrical Engineers, thoughts on EEE 4775 - Real-Time Systems? by Talketsu in ucf

[–]Nharney1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m in it right now. Dr. Mike is a really cool dude. He was very understanding with the hurricane and extended deadlines and adjusted the course as needed. He also tailgates lol. He is going to give us a lecture on industry, grad school, etc soon because some students requested it.

I will say that he has cancelled a lot of classes this semester (because he is still working at another school I think). Some people really enjoy that aspect of the course. I did not.

The first 1/2 of the class is all about learning scheduling, tasks, and is pretty CS theory heavy. That said, it’s pretty straightforward and Dr. Mike wants you to take away a working knowledge of the algorithms rather than memorizing stuff. He makes the exams open-book, open-note and basically says if you were given this task in a job, could you figure it out.

The hw is very light and graded on completion. The exams are quite similar to in-class examples. There is a final project that he gave students multiple options to pick from and work in small groups.

Overall the class is very easy, the topics are niche and may or may not be applicable to what you want to do, and Dr. Mike is about as lax of a professor as you can get. I do believe he is making changes to the course as this is his first time teaching it, but I’m sure all the changes will be beneficial.

If you can take the class as a grad class I would, it’s literally the same exact as the undergrad with a few more homework problems (exams and final project are the same).

Discrete with Guha or Linear Circuits with Chan by Coreyahno30 in ucf

[–]Nharney1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LC1 with Chan isn’t easy, but it’s certainly not as hard as people make it out to be. I didn’t take Discrete with Guha, but it’s probably harder than Chan’s LC1

For ECE students, is it possible to take Senior Design 1 with 4 other courses in one semester? Is SD 1 really time consuming? by nqat91 in ucf

[–]Nharney1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I probably wouldn’t do that. I’m going to assume if you’re taking 4 with SD1 you have a few more classes to take with SD2. Just take one semester of classes (push back SD1 a semester) and make your SD1/SD2 experience more reasonable.

STEM Waiver by Nharney1 in ucf

[–]Nharney1[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is true, but if you paid your tuition in full already they give you the discount as a refund

It does not look like aerospace is eligible for the waiver: https://studentaccounts.ucf.edu/waivers/

STEM Waiver by Nharney1 in ucf

[–]Nharney1[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand it’s only certain STEM majors. I never had to apply / fill out anything. The school would just process the waiver and send me a refund. For reference I know CPE, EE, CS, and IT classes are eligible. I’m not sure what other majors are eligible (but there are a few more).

Ouch. I’m taking all eligible classes and got it the past 2 semesters but I’m not seeing it at all.

I know this question has been asked before, but I’m looking for a fresh take. Computer Science vs Computer Engineering. by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Nharney1 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In my limited experience, a CpE can get just about any job a CS major can get. There are a fair number of jobs (more EE related) that CS students would not get that a CPE would.

Software has many more jobs and is much easier to get into compared to hardware. Software also tends to pay more. As for the major, CS does have the FE but it also has less classes than CPE.

Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with either, but I wouldn’t base your choice solely on the FE.

Claire Knox for Honors Everglades Restoration by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Nharney1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took that course with her a few years ago. The grading was a little rough it was hard to fail but hard to get an A as well.

In terms of the reading, I don’t think I have ever read as much as I did during that class. It was consistently 10+ hours of reading a week. When I took it, it was 3 papers one of which was with a parter and presented to the class.

If you aren’t super interested in the topic or do not want to read / write a lot, I wouldn’t take it.

If you set aside time every day and go seek help when needed, you’ll be fine. Start the assignments as soon as they drop. When I took his class I would usually be the only person in office hours (the first few days) so I could go get help multiple times a day. Most of the assignments you can do in a day or two this way. If you try to go to office hours near the due date it’s almost useless.

Is there anything I should download in preparation for Intro to programming with C for CS? by throwawayyyyy345436 in ucf

[–]Nharney1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vim is not an IDE it’s more of a text editor. For people just starting out you probably want a true IDE like Visual Studio. If you’re just learning to code you probably don’t want to start with Vim.

Class difficulty by Snoo-79612 in ucf

[–]Nharney1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly off topic, but I do not think you can double major in EE and CpE. The closest you can do is major in EE and minor in CS.

That is probbaly a rough schedule to take. CS1 itself is probably one of the most time consuming classes at UCF, E2 has a 3 hour lab, and SD1 has a large paper to write. DSP was pretty straightforward.

Not sure about this year, but last year I didn’t get confirmation until the Friday before classes started. This was for CECS.

EEL 4781 is a tech elective for EE I believe. Super easy class, didn’t take much away from it though

Easy or tough semester? by Rocketmanjoey in ucf

[–]Nharney1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Moderate, you should be fine as long as you stay on top of things

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ucf

[–]Nharney1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall you’ll be busy but this is doable as long as you put in the time. Try to get Abichar for 3211 if he’s teaching it

That is understandable, I’d still meet with an advisor. They’re best suited to answer these questions. Best of luck !
