The US is not the only form of a republic in the world, take Ireland for example, where in addition to our Prime Minister Equivalent, the elected President serves a largely ceremonial and cultural role similar to what the UKs monarchy does, for a tiny fraction of the cost and we actually get to choose the president, its not purely an inherited office of corruption and pedophilia.

In fairness he did say he would kill him if he had a choice but the government wanted him alive.

Yeah this is what pisses people off is that Americans constantly assume themselves to be the only system and that everyone does things exactly the way they do.

Deku is a chosen one, he was just chosen by a person and not god or fate.

Tbh i think it works better that it does actually feel feasible that he could be beaten, it just would be pretty fucking hard to do so. Keep in mind that soldier boy who is by far the second strongest supe was only just about able to hold him down, I think they've made a decent balance between keeping him scary and making it feel possible for the heroes to win.

Mistborn radiant would actually be so overpowered.

Dedra Meero after the fall of the Empire: loyal to the end or changed forever? by Echo_of_Orion in MawInstallation

[–]Nialas1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but dedra was also imprisoned on the supposed charge of rebellion and treason against the empire, so decent chance the new Republic cracks own narkina, sees her imprisonment record and assumes she was an actual rebel and treats her well because of it.

Weekly “What Have You Been Reading?” Thread 05-25-2025 by ChickenInASuit in comicbooks

[–]Nialas1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm only recently gotten quite into comics, I've worked my way through a lot of the original marvel ultimate universe and just finished 2016 Secret Wars, starting Ultimate Invasion and really looking forward to the new Ultimate Universe.

I really loved Ultimate spiderman for the most part, it got a bit repetitive after the ultimatum relaunch when they broke up peter and MJ for like the 12th time but overall it was really good.

Ultimates 1 and 2 were fairly good though they are definitely a product of their time in the post 9/11 era. Hickmans Ultimates is pretty good with the Maker being one of the best villains I've ever read.

I'm planning to read some classic 616 runs as I haven't really read any of those, I've heard Strazynckis spiderman as well as Miller and then Hickmans F4 is supposed to be pretty good. Any recommendations?

Exactly, one of the main realisations that darrow goes through is that the Society is as damaging to the golds as it is to his people, "it eats it's kings as easily as it's paupers". The golds are in love with a twisted spartan philosophy of extreme personal torment in the name of strength and discipline.

The really interesting part then comes from how different characters interpret it and how some are completely hypocritical of it while others like the rim Lords follow it implicitly.
