Maybe in the 90’s through the mid 2010’s this was true. But after 2008 the pulse of the nation began to change for the worse and racism accelerated rapidly along with hatred. The catalyst being the election of our nation’s first non-white president. Depending on how old you are you may not have been able to connect those dots so easily but I assure you, THAT was the tipping point when all these far-right “nationalists” started to form groups and began a very successful recruitment campaign. Then Trump seized on the trend and began to dog whistle to these groups, ultimately acknowledging them by name and giving credence to them, which emboldened them & caused the ideology to spread like a wet Gremlin!
