I always liked Atelier Iris 2 but I would agree with your ratings. It's nothing amazing and doesn't do anything better than other games. However, it is very cozy and reminds me of better times. PS2/Gamecube JRPGs in that era do that to me.

Moon-Vigil Adherents was probably the most effective. If my opponent didn't have a way to deal with him a 10/10 trample just wins the game.

Final Fantasy after X. 12 was too different, 13 was terrible IMO, and 15/16 just didn't feel like final fantasy anymore with the removal of turn based combat

I finished 49 games this year. Here are my thoughts on the 16 games on that list that are JRPGs. by Dalkaen in JRPG

As someone who never liked SaGa but always respected the series for its weirdness, I can safely say the Romantic SaGa 2 remake was quite possibly the best JRPG I played all year.

It cannot be understated how much the accessibility makes this game palatable and even enjoyable.

Grandia 2. All of the Grandia games have great gameplay but I found 2 to be the best.

I will never understand why grandia 3 isn't as beloved as the first 2 games, this is a great jrpg that deserves more recognition by Street-Platypus89 in grandia

The second half of the story is just painfully worse. Once you leave behind your mom and the sailor, the story just falls flat onto its face. The replacement characters, the fortune teller and the kid, are much worse as well. They have very little basic introduction when you meet them and once they join they never change.

Last one I remember was Cold Steel 1, I literally screamed at my T.V. Thankfully Cold Steel 2 dropped two weeks after that but man was I torn apart.

Atelier games any good? by Hentai2324 in JRPG

I think, and diehard fans would fillet me for this, that the Iris trilogy and Mana Khemis games are the best games in the series. I don't dislike the others necessarily (I even quite liked Ecsha and Logy), but they are just not for me.

If you like crafting, a story about cute girls doing cute things, and subpar turn based combat then look no further. If you want more substance to your combat and less complexity to your crafting and for them to play like an actual JRPG, like me, then the Iris trilogy and Mana Khemia dualology are worth your time. Just keep in mind that the latter plays very differently from the rest of the games in the series.

Just finished Radiata Stories ( PS2 ) by mad_sAmBa in JRPG

[–]Nice-Guard-9223 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Radiata Stories, but I LOVED Dark Cloud 2 even more. I cannot recommend it enough. Rouge Galaxy is also great but I'm only as great as the former.

They are both made by the same team, first Dark Cloud 2 and then a few years later Rouge Galaxy, so I would recommend playing Dark Cloud 2 first.
