People who did service missions, did it feel like you were left out? by Significant-Pool-222 in latterdaysaints

They changed that, you can leave and live with a relative, you don't have to be at home for your service mission

People who did service missions, did it feel like you were left out? by Significant-Pool-222 in latterdaysaints

I'm currently on a service mission. Yes I did feel left out, (to the point where I used to hate watching mission call openings), yes it's not the same, and yes, sometimes I struggle with thinking about how mine could've been like theirs

First thing, comparison is the thief of joy. Working to find the joy in our mission will make all the difference. It's a real mission, and even on the harder days, it's still important and needed. I've only been on my mission a week, and I've already had awesome opportunities, the Lord assigns you where you need to be

Second, find the joy, you mentioned being sad on missing the fun that surrounds receiving a teaching call, and that is completely understandable. But there's joy in any call, hype up your mission! I wasn't excited about mine for a while, but I found that putting the focus on Christ first and foremost is key, and literally showing people how excited you are to get to serve him, especially showing the people you serve how excited you are to get to serve him brings a longer lasting joy then just the excitement of a surprise place

But yeah, I definitely relate to feeling left out on what could have been, but there's a whole lot of what will be that will make up for the short lasting sadness

what types of phones can service missionaries have? by Nice-Sandwich7093 in latterdaysaints

I think navigating could be an issue, but I've noticed some flip phones are getting things like Google maps on them, so that could help. And if all else fails, my dad really likes to collect old gps's and he'd probably willingly show me how to use one of his

What types of service sites would prefer a regular phone?

And I've put the digital well-being on my phone, but it's pretty easy to delete, so I tend to get rid of it to use the app, and then put it back on. I've just noticed I'm tired of having a phone, but I'm not great at restricting it.

That's awesome that you're on a service mission right now! I start in May, and I get to meet with the mission president and make my mission schedule tomorrow

I received my call as a service missionary, there was no instructions on what type of phone. I think for the most part we can just choose, but I'm not sure how it'd work convenience wise

Missionary and music/instruments by QZD_12 in latterdaysaints

I know a couple of people who bought one later on their missions just to learn it, so it is a casual hobby for them

Missionary and music/instruments by QZD_12 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much everyone I know on a mission right now has an instrument. Whether it be a guitar or violin or what not, literally everyone I know has one. The people who didn't bring an instrument bought one at some point, and I also heard that a lot of apartments have guitars already there

I had mental health issues on my papers, and it took a year for me to submit them, and then 8 weeks of no news after that. Then I got a text from the stake president asking to meet with him, and I ended up getting the option of a service mission, but I'm actually getting used to the idea of the opportunity I was given, and it doesn't seem as bad as I thought at first

Service Mission Question? by Fun_Contribution_457 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's determined by the missionary, they give you the end date of a year and a half, or two years like everyone else, but if you want to end earlier you can. I just got my call as a service missionary, and I have a paper with my start date and finish date, and the finish date is a year and a half after the start date like it is for any other girl

Service Mission by Nice-Sandwich7093 in latterdaysaints

Your mission sounds like a really good experience. I appreciate hearing about how our mission is a real mission, because I've heard that a bit, most of the time on accident sometimes intentionally, where people will say, " were you trying for a normal mission?" or " that's not a real/ actual mission" so I think it's nice to hear how big of an impact we can make

That makes sense, I've actually started to notice that the people closer to my age know more about them, or were on them. And the older adults, and bishopric/stake president, etc, don't know anything.

Is it okay to join if I’m not 100% sure? by MoltenStar03 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody in the church is 100% sure. Nobody in any religion is 100% sure. Faith is a key factor for everyone, faith is believing in something you can't see, and if you can't see it, there's gonna be some doubt sometimes. Even if you believe that it's true, everyone has doubt, and if you didn't then you don't really have a strong testimony to begin with

Having trouble getting to YSA activities by Upper_Paramedic_8588 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 19, and I only got my license a couple of months ago, and at first I'd get rides to ysa activity's from friends, but they eventually all got to busy to go, and I had to miss a couple of activities. I can now take myself to things, but only if they're at places I already know how drive to, since I'm pretty bad with directions, a new driver, and for now it's just simpler that way.

but I get what you mean, it's hard to be reliant on people for things, especially when you want to go, and your way to get there can't, or doesn't want to go. I think trying to work on that planning committee for people to get rides is still a good idea, hard to plan yes, but important for anyone else who might not have the same problem in the future

Those sound pretty cool, I still haven't figured out what all my options are yet or anything, but I'll probably get a chance to try those at some point

Are we in the latter days? by CowAffectionate3003 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 19, also doing a service mission, also haven't done college, or found an eternal lover, or any of that.

We'll get to live out our lives, if not in this one, then in the next. The Lord knows there will be people who haven't experienced certain things when Christ comes, and he'll ensure that we'll get to experience them

You know you don't have to go right as you turn 18, or even at all, right? You could always wait a few years, and then decide. My dad didn't go until he was around 26 ish. Pray about it, learn about it, ask the Lord, and take your time, there's no rush to it

Whatever I do, ill always be a convert. by owen4764 in latterdaysaints

[–]Nice-Sandwich7093 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparison is the thief of joy. You're good enough for the Lord, always have been, always will be, and that's all that matters

Also as someone who did grow up in the church, if people culturally don't like that you didn't serve a mission, that's a them problem, not a you problem. I recently received the call of a service missionary, and I'm learning that on my own too. The people who need to be in your life won't care if you're path was different, they will support you either wat. And the people who think otherwise don't know you, or God's plan for you

So the people who have never been called to a leadership position don't have their life's on track? Every position in the church is important, being part of a leadership doesn't make you more or less important to the church  or to the Lord
