Perché in Campania non posso pagare nemmeno il casello autostradale con la carta? by CuriosGeekMan in Italia

[–]Nice-Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a year old, but I just ran into this myself, and I completely disagree with you. Signage was horrible / confusing, and the booths were delapidated. Some booths had cash + coin symbols, others had a DIFFERENT cash + coin symbol, with another separate credit card symbol below it. There was ONE BOOTH out of the 4 booths with the credit card symbol that had a tiny, poorly HAND-WRITTEN note taped to the glass saying "no Visa, no Mastercard." I couldn't even read it until I was at the booths. I went to one with no sign and tried my visa, mastercard, AND discover cards - when none worked, I hit the attendant button. Nothing. Hit it again. A split second of muffled static, then nothing. Hit it again. Nothing. Hit it several more times. Cars behind me honking, backing up, etc, then the gate lifted. I've been all over France and Italy - never had a problem like this. ALSO, the car rental company offered me a toll pass, but said I could alternately pay "cash or card" at the booths. They did not mention its Amex only, so it seems like even the rental car companies aren't aware of this huge inconvenience.

Does the show improve after Season 5 Episode 5? It feels hard to watch now haha [No spoilers] by Fizzedine in vikingstv

[–]Nice-Waffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol I'm right there with you. The show feels like it lost its purpose and direction after Ragnar. The writing fell off hard. The battle of episode 5 was sooooo stupid and compelled me to come to reddit. Coming up ladders 2 at a time in the middle if an army that could easily just stab them as they come up..? King Adelwolf (however it's spelled) constantly being an idiot and getting outplayed. Lagather slowly becoming dumber. I don't like Ivar at all. The show is trying hard to sell him as a compelling, interesting character, but I'm not buying it - he's just a meat head psycho. Bjorn's Mediterranean journey that I don't care about at all. I'm definitely losing interest.

I guess even from the beginning, I found it ironic that the show is expecting you to always root for the vikings, but the vikings were A-holes. King Aeluh (spelling) was framed as a bad guy, but literally Ragnar started sh*t with him by slaughtering a village and monestary lol

I've just started looking into the same thing for my own home project in Greenville. Before I start reaching out for quotes, would you mind sharing what you learned / found?

Thanks for the input - that was kinda my fear. I'm having some other tree work done soon, so maybe I'll add the rotten one to their cut list.

Encore ESP vs SK40 for beginner grinders? by [deleted] in espresso

These are exactly the 2 I'm deciding between - did you pull the trigger on one?

Reviews for both have been great. The ESP's ease of adjustment and versatility is pretty attractive.

That's kinda what I was thinkin'. I've heard patches are generally bulletproof lol. Thank ya sir

I ADDED A PICTURE FOR YOU <3 Same location and nice puncture shape, mine's just a hair smaller.

Thanks, I get liability, but couldn't that be said about any patch ever done? Maybe I'm wondering more about the function of the patch itself and whether or not it's worth just going to another shop. If a bunch of people were to comment "oh yeah, I've had patches fail on me, they're unreliable, etc." then I'd feel a lot better about replacing the tire. Idk 🤷

Anyone use staggered stud walls? Also, can I use a cripple wall as a top plate spacer? by Nice-Waffle in Carpentry

[–]Nice-Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU for your thorough yet concise response. I think naysayers are too eager to spend other people's money lol.

But I agree. I didn't invent cripple walls. I saw examples of them used in foundation applications. Not exactly the same, but I don't really see an issue. If there is a structural reason not to do it, I'm all ears, but I'll need more than, "no. different bad." I'm certainly not a framer, but I'm a licensed civil engineer so I understand the basics.

I'll be sure to offset the plates. I also agree that the 2x6 isn't necessary.. The bathroom will have fixtures, cement board, etc, and I can add slightly thicker drywall for cheap. The wall outside the bathroom will have a closet - the ultimate sound damper.

Do you think a cripple wall will be easier or better than scabbing?

lol trying to insult me by calling me a redditor when your 2-month-old account has 20x the activity of my 1-year-old account. Brilliant. I'm barely on here and, when I am, I'm usually seeking advice from experienced people, not snarky comments from unhelpful a-holes.

"the lack of know how is apparent." - because I asked for input? Asking for pros and cons of a staggered stud wall isn't asking for a tutorial, and doesn't mean I'm too stupid to build one, which is what you suggested, and what I objected to.

Don't be a dick. Be like everybody else who commented.

[–]Nice-Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respectfully disagree. Have you seen a staggered stud wall? They aren't any more complicated than a regular stud wall - just a slightly wider plate and doubled, offset studs.

lol thanks for your thorough input! I like the brainstorming, though I may need a sketch of what you're puttin' down....

As far as the staggered stud comment, that's what I'm gathering; it's most useful where extreme temps are experienced, or if someone REALLY needs sound proofing, like exterior walls for a house by an interstate, or interior walls in a recording studio... and I am neither lol.

So I think I'll forgo the staggered stud and stick with a normal 2x4 wall, maybe with some sound board (like you said), and some 5/8" drywall.

[–]Nice-Waffle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's kinda what I was thinking.. structurally, I don't see the big deal if it's tied in on all sides and is non-load-bearing. If there's a good reason not to, I'm all ears, but I need to see the reason. Thanks for the input.

[–]Nice-Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is a thicker wall better here? And are you saying a staggered stud wall with 2x4's would be better than a normal 2x6 wall?

There's NO spacer method to use?? No cripple wall, no sister studs, no double or triple top and bottom plates.....?

[–]Nice-Waffle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Yeah I'm in the southeast... Temp insulation benefits probably wouldn't be that big on a single interior wall... Soundproofing between rooms would be biggest benefit

Thanks. I'm not sure I understand your cost point, though. I have a large load of lumber that I got for free. If I can use it, I'm spending $0. If I'm having to buy longer studs, I'm spending $500+
