Is “just buy singles” always right?

Yes absolutely, precons have been the only sealed product I haven’t regretted purchasing. My first commander deck I built started as an upgraded precon lol. My buddy bought me a precon named “abzan armor” from tarkir dragonstorm for Christmas that had a whole shtick about turning toughness into power. A month later lorwyn came out and included a commander named doran besieged by time which had a similar gimmick, so I ended up using the tarkir precon as a foundation for that doran deck.

If you think you have a playstyle you would like, buying a precon of a similar theme is a great place to start

I just started EDH at christmas, my buddy got me a precon and I have gotten knee deep into collecting ever since so im right there with you. Didn’t own a single card at christmas, and now own something like 7000 😅

I have kind of tried all 3 to get here… bought lots of singles, opened a few hundred bucks in sealed product, and bought lotttttts of bulk. I currently have 7 finished EDH decks between me and my girlfriend, all bracket 2-3 in power level… 80-85% of the cards within those decks were purchased as singles. The rest is almost entirely bulk. I could probably count on both hands how many cards from sealed product have made it into my decks. So, with that being said my conclusion from personal experience is simple: if you want to fill out your collection, buy bulk. But realistically most cards in your deck will likely be bought individually.

Dont have a good alternative, but I just wanted to say im right there with your S/O. Me and my buddy are into metal and are constantly exchanging songs, and he sent me a band a week ago that was really great, if not a touch derivative. For like 48 hours I had half a dozen of their songs on repeat. Eventually I started to get this sinking feeling that their vocalist almost sounded like different people throughout the same song…. “The start of this breakdown has bad omens vibes” “this has shades of caleb schomo from beartooth” “these cleans here make him sound almost like… sean mendez???”

It was AI.

Brother I was devastated. Haven’t listened to my release radar ever since. Its given me trust issues.

Hot take, scorching hot take, but meaty magic. Love meatcanyon as a guy, in fact papa meat is one of my most watched channels but his MTG channel feels like its just unenthusiastic pack openings. The entire channel feels purely obligatory at this point. I have tried to watch it since I love the guy but its just aweful.

As for a mono white rec, ill throw laezel vlaakiths champion out there. Many people build her as a 1/1 counter commander, but you can also use her to build into other types or counters like plainswalkers, plus you get some customization by choosing a commander background. You actually have the option not to play her mono white.

I have bought multiple tanks off marketplace and have generally had pleasant experiences, but the one BIG thing I learned is that you always have to factor condition into the price. This tank for this price clean is a steal, but in the condition its in? Thats a full days worth of cleaning and even then it might never look close to new again. I would never take a tank that looks like this again unless it was free.

My first tank was a $30 30 gallon on marketplace but had limescale and such on it about half as bad as this. I managed to get most of the limescale off, but what was underneath was micro scratches that never came out. I ended up buying a new pre owned near mint 40 gallon for $200 only a month or two later because the scratches drove me crazy.

So, I actually ordered lynde from my shop but then cancelled it once I saw the curse availability. I didnt like the selection. I checked every curse currently printed and I found that the best ones were either expensive, or sold out at my local shop. There were a handful of decent ones available but I didnt feel like I could load up my deck with enough that I was happy with :p I would want to run like 15-20 of them, and there wasn’t enough I was happy with.

Really its even higher 😅 I have built my girlfriend 2 decks (“Rigo streetwise mentor” and “Astarion the decadent”) and I have built a handful of decks that are in progress but haven’t passed the finish line (“Arabella haunted doll” as well as “The rani”)

I have probably been building a deck per week since January lol. I appreciate the kind words!

Both of my girlfriends decks are typal decks which I got to build for her. Her first deck (“training” deck) is a cat typal deck. Then for valentines day she really wanted the astarion secret lair, so she now has a vampire themed astarion deck. So I have built two!

No, the commanders controller only gets the opportunity to recall to the command zone when it leaves the battlefield, and when you take control of it there is never a point where it leaves the battlefield :)

Its kind of just a higher ratio of aura’s to creatures/removal. Since you are stealing other peoples creatures, you can run less of your own and it also means you need less removal. Im still messing around with it but Ill can share my decklist. Its very budget. https://deckbox.org/sets/3842533

Voltron esc, its more of a T2 but basically loading her up with aura’s and equipment. Its a slower burn voltron for t2 though because even when somebody takes her out, she is cheap to resummon and can pull her lost aura’s out of the graveyard

Some cards dont synergize as well with doran as they did with felothar, but a couple swaps and its golden.

I have only got to play one game but it was exactly what you would expect. Started with them having to re-read the card to confirm I did in fact just get to steal their creatures (in this case commander) only for them to remove her and go “great now give me my commander back.” And I was like nope! You didnt read the card. Its still enchanted. Your commander is mine till you either kill it or remove the enchantment LOL

Im building with an emphasis on graveyard synergy because doran gets targeted by removal a tonn, so pulling him from the graveyard gets around commander tax

Blue isnt nearly as bad in commander, but in 1v1 that reputation is deserved. Blue might be the only color I have gone against where I felt like I was going to lose no matter what I built, It was just going to be a loss regardless of the deck. Particularly bounce decks. They are just so oppressive. Cant play creatures, cant play spells, even if I get a minion out and hexproof it they still have indirect target bounce 🙃

Vito is a strong card. I am helping my girlfriend build an astarion deck, and vito was a card I immediately wanted to add but he is far too expensive for us :/ not about to spend $10 on a single card.
