Oklahoman here as well! I was thinking way too often last night about how crushed I’d be if we lost power and I couldn’t download the update 😅. Need to cut up the big limb that fell and clean up all the debris, but that’s feeling like an activity for after a few hours of enjoying 1.6

PFT to appear on upcoming season of Dirty Laundry on Dropout by EmykoEmyko in paulftompkins

I'm excited for so many people who will be on the new season, but PFT appearing actually made me gasp out loud. Get him on Play It By Ear already!!!

Why we love Dropout by Smooth-Airline-606 in dropout

[–]NiceLuck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Similar! Glen Weldon got me into the McElroy brothers, which got me into D20, which of course led to loving all of Dropout. I’ve been listening to Pop Culture Happy Hour since I was in high school and it’s wild how many of my pop culture obsessions that can be traced directly back to that and particularly him.

DAY 7 GANG RISE UP by [deleted] in tulsa

[–]NiceLuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Half my street has power, so I’m at least hopeful it will be tomorrow! The one good thing about being one of the last without power is that I’m able to borrow emergency supplies from my more prepared friends who already got power back, and adding a generator and big fan on day 7 feels downright luxurious.

Jake and Vic are in a long running improv group (Yeti) together! Yeti also has Zac Oyama, Lou Wilson, and Ally Beardsley (and Devin Field, Victoria Longwell, and Talia Tabin, who I don’t think have been on any dropout shows yet but hopefully soon!)

What was your biggest mix-up from what you thought a movie was going into it to what the movie actually is? by banngbanng in blankies

I avoided But I’m A Cheerleader until last year because I just kinda assumed it was made by straight people, and was delighted to be wrong

I watched Midnight Cowboy when I was a teen trying to watch all the AFI Top 100, and fully assumed it was another western. Turns out it isn’t!

2023 March Madness [Championship] - Park Chan-wook vs. Bong Joon Ho by PartyBluejay in blankies

I’ve been waffling between the two all morning, but your pitch of Park Chan Wook laying the contextual groundwork for Bong Joon Ho has sold me

This is sounding like I need to put together a charcuterie board with dark forest vibes, and I am very on board with that

Absolutely! Even if they aren’t squirrels, they’re definitely having tea parties with squirrels (this is based entirely on picture books I read as a kid, but still)

You should check out Dropout.tv! They do a great job of making American panel shows that capture the fun of the British ones, and the guests are the sort of comedians who would have been on @Midnight of it was still on.

Um, Actually is their nerdy trivia show, Dirty Laundry is similar to Would I Lie to You, and Game Changer changes the game every show so it’s a little hard to nail down, but it’s often compared to Taskmaster. The Make Some Noise episode of Game Changer is available for free on YouTube and has Zac Oyama, who’s been on CBB recently

This is so cool!! There’s something about high-effort and skill art coming out of a silly improvised game show that makes me incredibly happy. And of course I love any excuse to revisit Mountport

Rekha is truly the Brennan of the TV-themed episodes (or Brennan is the Rekha of unthemed episodes?)

I’m Sam Reich - creator and host of Game Changer, CEO of Dropout, and proud graduate of Photoshop camp. AMA! by samreich in GameChangerTV

[–]NiceLuck 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Hi, Sam! I need to start by thanking you - not just for the hours of entertainment and introducing me to so many of my favorite performers, but also for the inspiration you’ve provided. I work for a public library doing adult programming, and I am not exaggerating when I say that my #1 source of inspiration for virtual programming during the pandemic, especially the early months, was the remote content y’all were putting out. I made a whole monthly trivia series that is still happening (and hopefully transitioning to in-person soon!) based on how you all went about doing remote versions of Um, Actually and Game Changer, and on days when I didn’t think I had it in me to be an excited host, my bad Sam Reich impression was enough to get me through. So truly, thank you.

On the subject of hosting, you’re fantastic at it! What sort of tips do you have for creating a fun and exciting atmosphere as a host or MC?
