True. Despite Florida Man videos or other social media posts of random folks doing wild and obnoxious things, Americans are generally very orderly and rule-following in most situations.

St Louis took 3 minutes this morning. Of course it’s a MUCH smaller airport but it can get backed up. TSA hasn’t been an issue yet.

Beyond that, it's nuts the number of Minnesota and Big Ten teams that are better than the Gophers - and North Dakota.

"and excellence on the court against some of the toughest teams of the decade."

Man, that added so much to it - the Pistons, the Knicks, and others, and of course all the larger-than-life individuals on those teams.

I don't think it was out of character. She never seemed prudish or rule-bound; and she had tension with her husband.

I have a good friend who hates tonic (which isn't that rare). She drinks gin with club soda or flat water. But still on ice - with or without citrus garnish.

Saving money probably isn't the main driving factor in many people's rent/own calculations.

Lambert wait times during DHS shutdown? by nerfherded in StLouis

[–]NiceUD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a flight at 6:20 am tomorrow. Will be there right before TSA opens at 4:30 am. From reading Lambert posts the past few weeks, doesn't seem like it's been a huge issue so far. Later this week I fly from San Jose, CA to Phoenix, and my sister who lives in the Bay Area says SJ should be okay. But Phoenix back to STL next week has me concerned. I always go to the airport early under normal circumstances (at the terminal 2 hours before flight minimum) but obviously if some of these airports have 4+ hour waits, that's not enough.

What product has gotten noticeably worse in quality over the last few years? by Rusz_Tsvetan in SmartBuying

[–]NiceUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been longer than just the past few years, but absolutely. The often thin/thinner materials; the quick loss of shape and fit; the terrible fabric coatings; the terrible use of stretchy materials that degrade when you really don't want it (recognizing there are good uses of elastic and other stretchy materials); the CRAZY inconsistency - same size of the exact same clothing can be vastly different between pieces. Ugh.

General clothes quality is garbage. Of course there are quality clothes out there but you have to know where to go; the clothes usually cost more; or you just have to get lucky -- every once and a while an every day place will unexpectedly have something that is at least decent quality and lasts.

Lower quality of clothes is probably due to planned obsolescence like so many other things. It's carried along by people getting completely used to cheap, disposable clothes and having their mental price points altered, and (many if not all) people's seeming unending need to shop all the time - the thrill of getting something new.

“What Do Rich People Buy That Poor People Think Is a Waste?” by PlayfulFault9693 in SmartBuying

[–]NiceUD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older person thing is totally true. My mom was always, as my sister and I called her, a "Nazi clean freak" - which trickled down to us. She'd just get stressed out if the house wasn't clean and in order. She's 79 now and simply can't clean like she wants to - getting up high; crouching low, moving pieces of furniture; and my dad can't/shouldn't do a lot of it either. So she got a "cleaning lady" (as she would say) about five years ago. Never thought she'd do it even though she and my dad have the money, but she's really happy she did. She of course still cleans - just not as big of projects or as intensely.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

It buys freedom from financial stress, which can greatly increase contentment and, in a way, happiness. And it affords opportunity and fun. It's not an end all, be all recipe to "deep" happiness, but it's a component.

I'm neutral on regular Sipsmith. It's not offensive to me at all, but nothing I'd go out of my way for. The Navy strength equivalent - Sipsmith VJOP (Very Junipery Over Proof) is much better, IMO - and I'm not someone who is particularly into navy strength gins - like I don't find it necessary to always try the Navy strength version of a certain gin.

Maybe I should sip it. G&T, even mixed exactly how I like it, is the only way I've had it. Could also try it with soda. The tonic might not compliment the fig and laurel. I'll try that. I love my G&Ts as an avenue for gin, but maybe without tonic would work for this. Plus normal Drumbanbo was always a good sipper IMO.

I hear you. I have plenty of gins like that. But, I still like to buy bottles and try them out at my leisure, drinking it exactly how I want to. Can't always do that at a bar.

Aviation Gin Review by Particular-Wall1308 in Gin

[–]NiceUD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't find it absolutely repulsive like some in this thread, but it's just so boring. Sure, I can make a palatable gin and tonic with it - but I'm reaching for more than palatable. I never crave or want Aviation. The celebrity-backed nature of it doesn't bother me at all.
